Pollution equipment

Need to know what pollution equipment came on my 1977 350. Motor came from a truck but I don't know if was original to the truck. Bought a offset mount for my egrto get around the carb and valve covers.. Was too low so I had a 1in spacer made too. Fits now. Think I will need a charcol canister. Going into a 52 buick so im not sure about a sealed gas tank with the charcol unit. Cats maybe? Any info or ideas would be great...thax in advance.

this is an american website but i found it useful for my jeep. only drawback is you need to know the vin of the vehicle that the motor came out of.

www.ergweb2.com/vindecoder/index.cfm

Yeah I have no idea what the vin was. Going to try and find someone with a 1977 chevy and see what they have on the car.

Depends on if it was from a 1/2 ton or a heavier truck.  My 78 blazer (4x4) came with no pollution stuff ( except for the heat chimney to the thermostat in the air cleaner) as it's rated over 6000 lbs. If it had been 2wd, it would have needed cats, egr, canister etc. My 77 3/4 ton also had no stuff on it. both have 350s in them

If it was a 1977 engine, I would guess it would have every friggin emission control ever invented by Man on it. !!

Car is a 1952 buick. Bought a built 350 from a friend that found a hemi for his 32 ford project. Motor is installed in my buick. Welded up the egr and exhaust is already finished. High rise finned valve covers. Took off the intake and drilled out the egr I had welded in. The egr would not clear the carb. Got a offset mount. Cleared the carb but not the valve covers. Made a spacer now the egr fits. Drilled the valve cover for the PCV. The headers end just before a x-member in frame. Mufflers are in between the x-member. No room for cats. Have to get the exhaust remade to fit everything.$. Charcol cannister will fit but if im right the gas tank has to be a sealed unit for the cannister. Air cleaner is a finned unit like the valve covers. Chimney for the air cleaner will be very hard to install and still look good. Im sure there is other pollution stuff I will still need to install. Two steps forward 3 steps back.

understand the emmision equipment has to simply be there.  they wont check if your tank is sealed and if the cannister actually goes to it, run a hose down the frame, the moe guy aint crawling around trying to find that line. even if they do, run the hose to the top of the tank, what are they going to do? drop your tank to verify that the hose is connected? i doubt it.  these clowns are lazy as **** and they dont want to get dirty.  get an egr valve off a dodge caravan, the mount remotely and are still an egr valve.  i bought slim cats for my tow truck off ebay, 50 bucks each and they are no larger around than a cherry bomb muffler.  if your that worried about i could drop by and tell you exactley what you need to do, ive been through this already with the moe, but st cathrines is far away for me

Now, correct me if I am wrong Dark... you have a 77 engine,,,you are putting it in a 52 Buick...you want to switch it over to carb.....what is it that's not looking good for you?...all parts needed are easily obtained AND it's an easy swap...whats the big deal?

I also have a str8 8 under my work bench. Wanted something I could buy parts for easily if I was not near home. Should have used the 327 that I wanted too but my "bigger is better" idea has shot me in the foot.

Thax for the offer fatstax. EGR is done already. I like the idea about the sealed tank. I only have about 9 inches between headers and mufflers and that 9 inches goes through the x-frame so I will have to move everything to get enough room. Wife says im too pigheaded to ask for help but if I find myself in a pickle I will be picking your brain for ideas. Going to redo a few things this winter that im not happy with....thax guys for your ideas...
