Well I guess it is finally time to put my project up for you all to see.

It has been under construction for two years - and is almost done.

I am just working on the interior at the moment - and waiting for MBA Audio to finish their gig for the stereo system. I am having Mark at Classis Upholstery do the seats as I don't have a big enough sewing machine.

All other work, fabrication etc is by me

Paint and body work next - hope to be totally completed by January to be able to hit some of the winter shows. I truly want to hit Detroit for the downstairs rat rod and hot rod show

I had posted about Chrome yellow but then got thinking it had an orange tone to it, I am now guessing but the 1969/1970 Mustangs came in a
Grabber yellow ( Ford Code was M3217)
We had a 56 Nomad Gasser all painted this colour and only from memory and the photos on your page looks the same but as a painter
I know how "exact" can be a mile off when going through the gun too...1969_00099_01.jpg

ok - so I have hit a snag

seems that all paint match is don't by computer scan these days

after 3 x $35 can attempts - I am not closer to matching this paint than when I started.

It is supposed to be an original 60s Ford paint code

Anyone out there have knowledge of the old colors?

I will buy you a case of beer for anyone who can tell me what color this is and or a paint code

thanks

Ken

i had kinda the same issue. i needed to paint a hood and was told the rest of the car was GM paint was 'code 10 white' (or whatever) and it turned out there was several different 'code 10 whites'.

at that point i had them use the digital scanner and it came up with something different than any of the "code 10's'. i decided to pick my own choice of color and painted the hood ............. it sucked. i then relented and used the paint the scanner suggested (also not a 'code 10 white') and reshot the hood. way better but still not absolutely perfect ........... i decided to live with it. the only other possibility was to repaint the entire car and i wasnt up for that.

based on this experience i would suggest that either you use the color the computer suggested (which might not be a perfect match) or you repaint the entire truck because i just dont think its possible to perfectly match old paint due to aging, sun exposure etc etc.

best of luck.

lucky for you i dont drink any more ........... well not since they invented the funnel  biggrin

the computer was so far off it looked like sour mild rather than yellow

I just found some old paint chips - and there are two goldenrod yellows - go figure - and one appears correct - but how ot e sure

you have several options as i see it ................. either find a car with the paint color/code you think yours is and compare, squirt the truck the code you think it is and hope it close, squirt the truck the code the computer says it is and hopes its close, or repaint the entire truck any color you wish.

well the computer isn't an option - done that already as I said

so now it is a choice between two goldenrods

there are no 60s Fords around here with any color of yellow to compare

:(

kinda confused ....... have you actually squirted the computer color or are you just not liking the look of it from a paint chip?  (in my case the computer picked a color that was a LOT closer than one i picked by eye).

also not understanding why it took three tries with the computer.  wouldnt the first scan be the same as the other two?

if the three scans are all diffent i would guess that could only be because the scans were taken from different locations on the truck body. if that is the case then i dont think you can possibly match it.  how can you possibly match three different colours using one code?

we scanned three different parts - seems the curves in the panels cause the issue - the pc picks up too much light or shadows when the camera cant sit flat

finally some luck - found a website with all Ford paint codes by year and cross references to all current paint suppliers

dash is painted and it would take a good eye to tell where, it is that good a color match

so a couple nights worth of work - new steel headliner and interior panels and covers - still need to paint the screws black

dash repaired from big double din hole that was butchered into it

couple old pedals installed

new doors sills and carpet

newly recovered Ford 150 seats, and custom end and centre filler panels

new tailgate with custom centre filler panel and handle moved to the inside

tomorrow - door panels       smile

my camera and the lighting doesn't do justice to the stereo install or the interior but here it is finished

also the steel hood scoop started, and roughed in - just need a little more fitment and some dolly work then ready to weld

stereo sounds as good as anything I have ever heard outside of serious competitions - very special thanks to Scott MacCormack and Drew  of MBA Audio and Custom - awesome work guys!!
