Where...shorten driveshaft?

I have a drive shaft that needs to be shortened and balanced, it has a Dodge front yoke and needs a Ford at the rear end.

Where would you guys recommend I get this done, in the Kitchener area, or within 100km or so. I want good quality work.

too bad you werent closer to cobourg i could spin it in my lathe, ive made a bunch of shortened shafts, never had one shake or shimmy yet

I've used Harman automotive in Kitchener many times and happy with their work. They are on the corner of Guelph and Serada.

 Harman was the first place I was thinking of. One of their rep's is a member of the Moparfest committee, they're also sponsors, so I'm sure I'll get a good deal. I've never seen or heard, either good or bad of their work.

I won't be drag racing this thing, so street application is good enough, as long as I don't get vibration at highway speed (120/130kpm), I'm good.

the biggest issue with shaft shortening, lol is the loss of length, no actually its the run out and getting the yokes in phase, they have to be dead on or the shaft will bind.  you wouldnt believe the amount of run out a factory shaft has, since they make them by the thousands.  every shaft ive made i correct the run out.

         2X    They have done two for me .Son's Monte Carlo and my Acadian  I said to the Tech,"I am going to spin these 6500rpm" Not a problem he said. No issues at all.smile

I'm late chiming in but Delta Spring in Breslau does leaf spring work and will make driveshafts.

I wouldn't go anywhere else but London Driveline.  MAtt the owner is a great guy and a racer so he knows his stuff.  He's probably done 6 or 7 for me and never had a hint of a problem

 I appreciate that Rochie, thanks for the input.

I went with Harman, for a few reasons, 1) They came recommended, 2) They are sponsors of Moparfest and also organizing committee members, 3) They are close to home for me, 4) I just simply couldn't beat the price.

But it's nice for other members to know what there options are.

It's a fairly simple machining operation, I could do myself, but unfortunately I don't have access to the equipment.

 Yes, they do, but shop around...they aren't cheap. I wasn't pleased with the price on my leaf spring rebuild....new ownership since then...things might be different now

I just had them do the leafs on my 33 chev. They recurved the existing ones and added a new leaf.  When I picked them up a day later they where matching height decent strength. They lifted the car 1/2" from where I wanted to be but the tension feels right when I stand on it and bounce.

Price tag was 250 plus. It was their two hour labour rate that was the biggest bite.

 

I can't compare prices as I don't know.

I asked the driveline shop what the bite would be for a drive shaft. He said around but probably less than 300, but I had to  supply the tube yokes and trans yoke.

We take all our driveshaft work to London Drive Line  and all our spring work to Harry's Springs     LONDON
