Frank..Check Fastenal..or antique Chev in Oakville.. or you you might even just check a local front end alignment shop must some old alignment shops around if they don't have any they might turn you onto to somebody ..before you just use any bolt check for the bolt grade on the head..and like Slim says they probly do not have to be splined but you could just use a punch to drive a few nicks to nural them to help keep them tight..I don't think they should be hard to find ..

chuk

by the way the work is looking good keep at-er like Wayne (Rochie) says just keep poking at her ..she keeps looking better all the time like most women  she just loves a slow steady hand to keep her warm...confuse

sorry Janice.. just talking about the car..wink smile  aww

Hoping to locate one in good shape, out of the 4 that I have one is shot.

I am working on the front end of my 58 Chev and need to find a single bolt.

Maybe someone out there that is working on a 58-64 Chev have one laying around.

It is the upper control arm bolt, splined at the bolt head. One of mine is in bad shape and not reusable.

I realy don't see the point for the spline other then to make it easyer to assemble at the factory. Id replace the lot with new hardware.Use loctite if it makes you feel better smile

Frank, if those bolts are just regular grade 5, (not good etiquete i suppose,) but just put a tack weld on each head after putting them in? That little knurl is i'm sure just to keep them from turning.

Just a suggestion.

Someone suggested to check with my local GM upto years 72, they still might have on hand.

I do have to place an order with Antique Chevy for motor mounts, so I will ask them if they carry the bolts. Not showing in the catalogue.

Checked with Antique Chevy, no luck.

Checked a couple of GM dealers in my area, no luck. Best I could get was a part number from a 72 Chevelle.

Anyone out there with an Interchange Manual?

GM Part # 381909

I checked my 1958 to 67 Chevrolet parts manual and they don't list an upper control arm bolt anywhere but then it's probably close to 1000 pages in this manual and my eyes are getting old.

The part number you have listed is a 7/16-14 X 2 1/4" bolt. The picture you have shows a fine thread 7/16-20 X ?" bolt so it appears that the #381909 bolt is different.

Bruce,
That GM # is the newer replacement. At least up to 78 as far as I can find on the net. The parts guy did not have any books beyond 1972 Chevelle.
I'll check my 58 Parts book when I get home.

Even over on Chevy Talk, they say the replacement is a course thread and no longer fine.

Joe,
I know the place, I'll go and talk to Craig.
ThanX

Bruce,
I thumbed through my 58 catalog and they show numbers for the nut and washer but not the splined bolt. :scratch head:

That's the same as  I got from my parts manual, nut and washer but no bolt listed. I even checked the frame section to see if it was in the control arm mount section and found nothing. At least you know what to look for now and I'm sure there's one around somewhere.

By the sounds of it , The bolt was part of the control arm assembly- spline kept the bolts from falling out

the bolt on the right is obviously worn just below the spline (which i assume is the one you want to replace) but the other bolt in the pic looks bent. could just be the angle of the pic/shadow i guess but it sure looks bent to me.

Not bent, just shadows and angle of pic.
The other three bolts cleaned up like new.

Joe,
I stopped in at Crown first thing this morning and spoke to Craig. He could not help. The other tech there had to use a normal bolt on a 61 Chevy he worked on last week and put a tack weld to hold the bolt in place.

I did manage to find one on the net and I will see if the guy will USPS it to me, I'll find out later today.

ThanX for your help.

Worst case I will replace with a Gr. 8 bolt 7/16 - 14 x 2" and tack weld it in place.
