Rust Removal at it's finest

For all of you out here, I guarantee that you have something that has rust on it or even completely rusted through.

While walking through Canadian Tire two weeks ago, I saw a product on the shelf called Evapo-Rust....read the bottle, stated it's astonishing ability to remove rust.  I continued to read the bottle, hoping for something of a "catch", but saw nothing.  It stated that it is non-toxic and water soluable, so I opted to give it a try....

I have to say I was skeptical, seemed too good to be true....

Do yourself a favor and go out and buy this stuff...it works AMAZING....

I soaked a trim piece in the solution per the instructions (a piece that has a pretty hefty dent on it and will need replaced if I can't smooth it out over time) and the next day I went back to the piece and pulled it out of the solution and holy crap, it was basically bare metal.  I proceeded to lightly scrub the trim piece with steel wool and all of the remaining scaling came off.  I sprayed it off with the hose and dried it off and OMG, it was bare metal, nothing was left that was rust.

I have proceeded to buy more of this amazing product and subsequently have been able to continue my removal of the rust without too much of an issue.

As you will see in the photos, I was able to spray them with an epoxy primer and all without any heavy rust removal by hand or blaster.

The three trim pieces were able to become rust free from only one 1L bottle of this amazing product.

Good luck to everyone

Hooks.

I have only purchased the 1L bottles so far, only one that my local Canadian Tire carries.  I have subsequently found a few other suppliers from their website (link in above message).

The gallon bottle on the other sites list around $30 (give or take)

Saw this Evapo-Rust mentioned on a few other sites, but have no experience with it personally. The reports seemed to favour it.

That stuff does work well, it's just pricey.

Molasses is $6 a gallon if you are cheap and have time to let it soak.

I have used it too. Works awesome, yes it's expensive though. $10 / liter at CTC.
Best use I have found for it is motorcycle fuel tanks.

My only issue with this would be the "DANGER" icon on the side of the container as I am utilizing this in my home garage and I have children.

Thank you for the recommedation and the information.

I've used that stuff, it works the best of anything I have tried but it is very corrosive.

I think if you look hard enough you will find the danger symbol on  any of the rust removers.

Well, molasses wouldn't kill you, thats for sure. If you ate too much of itt, it may give you the green apple quick step, but no more.

 Hey Joe.

I'd say it's safe. I had my hands in my sticky goob pulling out my headlight buckets. No corrosive feeling, just stinky I was told by my pal. (I can't smell a thing) Dumped it in the garden when I was done.

It cleaned up the buckets nicely. What you see in the pics is left over paint or primer.

It does take a long time though.

Here is the Passenger Door of my car after soaking in the solution for 48 hours.

Only thing left behind is the remaining paint and a few dents that I didn't see before
