Paul Dunbar/ James Boys Willys
Permalink

I received an email this morning letting me know that my good friend Paul Dunbar has passed away.  My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sandra and daughter Jen and her husband at this time.  Paul was the "re-creator of the famous James Boys  Willys gasser and the Rydell Hope and Lang Vega.  He was just an all-round great guy,  soft spoken, funny as hell, and quite determined…maybe stubborn thrown in there as well.  I know a lot of you O.N.D.R. boys knew him from racing with and against him.

I will miss him greatly,

Wayne

Visitation and  The funeral service are at the Wlliams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St. St Thomas, On. from 2:00PM to 4:00PM 7:00 PM to 9:00PM Ssunday and the funeral service on Monday

Paul was a friend to many people and you always left after speaking to Paul, with a smile on your face.

I will certainly miss my friend !

When you arrive Paul, say hello to KS for us, as many of you may remember we lost KS last September.

Take care my friend, you fought a courageous battle !

Paul was one of the good guys.....he made you laugh long and hard..... he fought a very hard and long battle...... a true hotrodder and drag racer.
I will miss my talks with Paul very very much.

I hope your road is smooth Paul and you get rubber in fourth gear always.

R.I.P.

Well today was a sad day indeed. As I walked into the funeral home where Paul was resting in St Thomas, I noticed the memorial card for Paul Dunbar.

The picture on the front of the memorial card was a picture of Paul, taken from a cliff, overlooking Mertle Beach with the ocean as a backdrop.   Paul had written one word in the sand: "LATER" , with 20' tall letters, and he was pictured standing beside one of his favorite sayings,  "LATER".

For those who did not know Paul, this was Paul's great personality, having the last word, the last laugh and a phrase he would often use before departing your company......  Paul would never say 'goodbye' as it was too final for his liking, as he would always see you later.

Yes my brother Paul,  "LATER".

RIP, you will be missed and thank you for your friendship !

Neil,
That memorial card got to me when I walked in as well. I saw it and it dawned on me , it was always "Later" from Paul never "Goodbye". I will miss him.

I'm sorry to say that I never met Paul. We were likely at the same events several times over the years, but were never introduced - missed opportunities. Condolences to the family and to all that knew him and obviously loved him.

Nice touch Jeff......Paul's smiling right now in heaven ....good story.

"I'd like to leave an after glow of smiles when day is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times" .......this was from the poem inside of Pauls memory card from his funeral.

Later Paul.......

And he made Sandra use the 64 nationals Sound track for the precursor to the funeral service, where most people have their favourite music playing….well I guess Paul did as well.
later Bud
