OK, heres the deal...I installed an Autometer tranny temp gauge in my truck this morning...4L60 trans....Its about 35-40 degrees around here...Went into town to run a few errands. Temp on gauge went to about 125F, that was about it. Ran a total of about 10 miles. Is this normal for this time of year?..How long should it take to get up to operating temp this time of year, or is this the normal temp for this time of year?
Just trying to get a baseline here, as I have never monitored trans temp before.
That sounds about right. My truck (07 Silverado) also has a 4L60, and has a factory temp gauge. I will jot down in the next few days what temp it's running at and post back.
Where in the system did you install the sender.. that is about normal temp..when summer comes and as soon as your pulling your trailer you will see that come closer to rad temp.. do you have an external cooler or is the cooler in the rad..
I installed the sender in the pressure test port. It is just above the shift linkage etc. This was recommended on a couple of truck forums I am on. Some say it should go in the pan, but others say the pan is full of fluid that has just been cooled, so isnt an accurate reading of working temp. Lots of different opinions.
My truck has the towing package, so has the factory external cooler as well as going through the rad.
I added a bigger cooler and a shift kit and run a 2001 6.0L 2500HD in summer with 8000 lb RV trailer it will go to 150-160 Yesterday in cool it runs 100-125 so your normal
