I have a sandblast cabinet, tends to get really dusty and hard to see inside when using. A friend gave me a blower motor from a gas hot water tank and suggested I use it to extract the dust.
Like Slim said, a shop vac works. Mine has an access port for the vac hose on one side and an air filter on the other for the air inlet. The vacuum was to strong so I had to have a small sliding gate on the hose to cut back on the vac in the cabinet. It was strong enough to pop one of the gloves off the flange they clamp to. Once I cut back on the vacuum, it worked out fine.
I have also heard that the dust is tough on shop-vac motors. I'll be using an old squirrel cage from a furnace connected via a dryer vent hose and vented through the exterior wall. This keeps the aggregate separate from the motor. It will be much more quiet than a shop vac too. You can play around with pulley sizes to decrease or increase how much air to pull out of the cabinet. I suppose it could be made portable by attaching it to the back or under the cabinet if room allows. This way you could still roll it outside into the driveway and it will still draw dust and direct it away from your feet

If you see dust in the air your filter sucks... I mean blows... I'm as cheap as they come but you don't want to breath that crap in especially if your using glass.Think about it glass dust in your lungs. I know wear a respirator/mask but the more you contain in the box or vac the better.
hey fordy ....... in another post you mentioned a buddy with a fuel bike out of dorchester. i am guessing that is raceworks 'northern storm' bike. what ever happened to the bike/the shop?

Yep, Mike Law closed up the Raceworks shop a few years ago. The bike is still here last I saw. Mike is restoring '70s Z1 Kawasakis from his home shop and turning out quite an impressive product!
Dan Butters, the Northern Storm pilot, comissioned Mike to build him a beauty that he rides regularily. I think he has retired from racing to his day job as a linesman for Ontario Hydro.
Next time I see Mr Law about the town I'll ask about the bike for ya - interested in taking it for a hot lap are you?
