The plugs shown above were in the front of the lifter oil galley.(red arrows below). So with .060" holes in those plugs it was pissing oil, a lot of oil, onto the back of the cam gear, filling the timing chain cover faster than it could drain out the bottom back to the pan. The yellow arrow is the hole to the lifter valley where the oil was coming out in the video.
The engine builder had been informed of the oiling issues with this engine from it's first prime in September. None of his recommendations made mention of the drilled plugs.
He has seen the video. But has taken no action. A replacement gasket set would be nice.
And this is not the only issue. But the other one is not so cut and dried.

so is the oil feeding the front timing gear pressurized? i thought those holes drained the lifter galley and oiled the timing chain? theres a pretty big space at the bottom of that timing chain area, why would the oil not drain away fast enough? seems like theres something else going on
Who was the builder I had oiling big problems last year with my builder. There's a lot of guys out there just wingin' it'. This is the 3rd go round for my build so this time I'm going to totally disassemble it and check it myself. You just can't trust anyone.
The oil behind those plugs is pressurized. Those are the lifter oil galley's and feed oil to the lifters and the top of the engine. This is a DART block so it is a little different but the principle at that point in the oiling system is the same as a Chevy block.
55lb's pressure and two .060" holes leaks lots of oil. Putting the proper plugs in brought the pressure to 72lbs, which is where the pump bypass would open, and a number that I am much more happy with.
I won't hang the builder on here, but I made my point that he should be checking oil pressure before he ships out an engine

I would !! I wont mention who it is, but it's a builder that everyone on this thread has heard of. Kinda sad that such a big name in engines would let something like this fall through the "cracks" !!
