408FLTc.jpgGasser styled....sort of. No straight axle but high all around. No front bumper and old school Cragars. Big block,4 speed and Ford 9 inch with 4.11's. Single 4 barrel tunnelram in the spring.I like to keep the car relatively drivable.V7CLzR8.jpg

I started on one a few years ago, but got side tracked....again. Too many irons in the fire, I guess. I should sell some irons and get back to it!

Still having fun collecting parts and pieces though!

Those Fords make really cool gassers . I would love to see one with a blown 460. That would move it down the trac in a hurry!

I agree, the Fords make cool looking gassers. I'm always surprised that there aren't more of them.

It's a '58 Ford 300 - the most basic of the base model. I'm just a few items short of a full build. It's getting the drivetrain from my '71 Ranchero. 429/C-6 and I'd like to get a 'Gear Vender OD' for it too, you know, so I can take it places.

Im surprised there aren't more gassers period. I grew up in the 60s in west end TO and there were lots of them. It was all about performance back then  Its big in the US but not too many into it up here, dont know why. Some of them handled badly if they weren't set up right-they got a bad rap. Jim,that55 is gorgeous-I did one in flat black a few yrs ago-Its still terrorizing west TO to this day!

Not all gassers had straight axles in the day, just raised the front end to get traction. A buddy in western ON is building a HenryJ, should be out this spring.

I'm building one for a client right now. A "bit" different though. '65 Jag E, glass front end we had shipped over from the UK, 292 GMC, 3 speed, converting it to right hand drive, monoque (sp)unibody/frame out, 2x3" frame in, custom dash made from a sheet of steel and a Fargo/Dodge cluster, 8 3/4 diff on custom made ladder bars,  straight axle of course.

It's been christened "Gas E". I'll see if I can post a couple shots later.

your client might be wise to look into insurance regulations regarding right hand drive vehicles.  i have heard (meaning i do not know this as fact) that regular insurance companies put such cars in their 'facility' group (read that as being expensive).  this might not apply to classic car insurance though (if it applies at all).  might be worth looking into.  the car i heard about this relating to is a japanese model that isnt overly old (i think it was a skyline).

Thanks for the heads up on this one.

I had actually heard some similar rumours so I passed the info along a few months ago when we were planning the build. He spoke to his agent who looked into that concern. He was informed that wouldn't be a problem what so ever BUT you never know what other companies will say about the same question OR when they may change the guidelines. I recommended airing on the side of caution and staying left side drive but the owners felt it was part of their vision and worth the gamble & expense to have.

That 57 Ford is cool. I would love to see more 50s gassers, both cars & trucks. I think you can still get a front end lift kit for tri 5s.I think its a ball joint spacer and longer springs-don't know how it will handle though. A Jag gasser? That's cool-It needs a blown Hemi!
