I wanted to share with the group a project I created to bring our hobby to kids in high school in Learning and Life Skills classes and inspire them to create futures around it. The project has been a huge success so far with 2 schools participating, several more interested, and a couple signed up.
We had 5 clubs participate in the pilot event, taking 13 vehicles to CCSS high school in Bowmanville and introduced these kids to the vehicles. The kids got to ask questions, check them out, and then request rides. There were huge impacts for the students, teachers, as well as the guys that brought their vehicles out. In fact, many of us were so inspired that we actually went out to a hgh school in Oshawa and did the same thing again the next week. We are continuing in the spring with more schools and in a bigger scope with taking these kids to Prom in our rides.
If you want to check it out on Facebook, search under "My Prom Is".
If you are interested in being part of this event that creates new futures for kids and new impacts for all participants, keep an eye on the facebook page and friend me directly. I am looking for clubs to participate as a group with a school in their area, as well as individuals who want to make a difference. We are currently working with schools in the Golden Horseshoe but are open to other areas.
What you're providing is a lasting memory for all the kids that you introduce to your hobby and something they will remember for a long long time. When I was teaching, I always had hot rods and race cars as part of the program and whenever I meet some of my ex-students, that's the part of school they always remember.
My son is the head of technical education at Maxwell Height's in North Oshawa and he generally integrated race cars and hot rods into his program whenever he was teaching Auto Shop.

The second picture I posted of the green Deuce hiboy was actually at Maxwell Heights in Oshawa where your son teaches. The shop class also participated though they didnt have permissions to go for rides. We are intending to be part of their Prom this spring taking the kids to Prom in our rides.

Good to hear you have been at the school and I'm sure the kids were excited to see the car.

Gary, this is wonderful idea. Thank you so much for sharing. Our kids are the future of our hobby.
I was thinking of doing something along the same line in our area, but never got it put together. Your post has given me new inspiration to make it happen.
I live in Walkerton and we do have a number of guys with great cars that I am sure would be interested to do something locally. I would like to know more of what you are doing. I will try the Facebook thing - maybe have to get my teen age grandkids to help me.
Again, thanks for sharing and for doing this for the kids.
John, I've already had interest from several clubs and am going to speak with them directly. Would welcome the chance to do the same for you. Performance in Motion magazine would like to do an article on it, with the idea to spread it around the province if not further. Already had interest in Edmonton too.
Anyone interested, PM me and we will set it up, historical vehicles, hot rods, British car club, military vehicles or whatever. Its all about giving it to the kids.
Heck, one kid wants to go to Prom in a Zamboni! Need some help on that one!
