Thanks for that Will I wished I would have grown up here I'm sure it would have been a good place to hang out! A commercial on the boob tube tonight was that any business that wants to move there the city will give them an incentive of ten years tax free!
Interesting post Will thanks for this. Spent some time there almost 50 years ago when buddies were working at Chrysler, a booming city then, sad to see how it has gone downhill so bad.
Reports state there is around 74-78,000 empty buildings there, almost a million of their population has left.
Remember cruising Cadillac Square at night with my buddies, looking at all the strange people. (Strange to us anyway, Lol)
Thanks Will. I too love Detroit ,was born in Windsor and grew up in Sarnia and Chatham. In the late 50's 60's 70's and early 80's I spent a lot of time there. The video you posted reminds me of those days. It's trajic what the city has become.
I grew upon Windsor's west side. Almost under the shadow of the bridge. Most of my teenage years were mis-spent in Detroit. I mean after all, Detroit had THE cruise routes , Telegraph, Gratiot, Livernois, down river and of course Woodward. The strips weren't too far out of town and the Detroit girls…well nuff said. It was the only city where you could pick up a girl right out of her own car cruising'. When I was "legal" to go into bars, the music was incredible. Everybody wanted to be Seeger or Ryder, or Smokey, or Marvin . And if you hung around a bit somebody with a name would be coaxed onto the stage for an impromptue jam.
I miss Detroit but some of the places I used to hang around I wouldn't go into now, it's changed some.
I also have a great many memories of Detroit. It is sad to see the downtown today in comparison to what it once was. But there is renovation going on and I do believe it will come back. I sure hope it does.
