Does anyone go to this custom car / rods show ? I haven't been in many years but am considering going to this one .

One of the best and the biggest in North America......I know I've been going for over 30 years.....lol......we'll have 6 to 7 cars in the show this year so come by and say hi.
My wife and I went for the first time last year. A couple of weeks ago she asked me "When's autorama?" Followed by "have you booked the hotel yet?" She's hooked! It is definitely is a show not to be missed.
Going to Detroit is like two shows in one. The upstairs is huge with all the stuff you would kind of expect, nice stuff at that. The downstairs is more of a party atmosphere with the rats, customs, older hot rods and bands playing. One of the best shows you can attend.
Yeah , I've heard about the downstairs ....sounds like an interesting bunch of bad-asses ( hearing from the HAMB guys ) , so I'll have to circle that on my calendar ...probably the Saturday .

In the past, I've always went on a Sat or Sun and it's been darn near elbow to elbow. In fact three years ago the up escalator from the basement over heated and quit from just being overloaded. Security would only let people on every other step for awhile until the motors cooled down a bit. If you plan on taking pictures, they will likely be fairly close shots of the cars, just no room when it's at the peak attendance. But...I went on Fri. last year and it was excellent. There were still a lot of people there but spread out so that you could see and just stroll along at a nice pace. It's a biggie, you could really use two days to see it all at a leisurely pace. Just a tip...if you can park on the roof, it's a good deal easier. (If it's open.) Park your car, walk over to the elevator and ride it down to the show floor, get your ticket and your in. Makes it nice when you leave too, your out in the elements for only a short time.
A group of us did that last year, but likely won't again unless it's a smaller group. If my memory serves me, it's $4.00 each way per person and then we paid for parking on the Canadian side because we were later then 6:00PM - something to consider or at least ask about as I think we were mislead. There were ten in our group in two cars, so it worked out to $80 for the bus ride and another $15 each car for parking. We would have saved a bunch by stuffing ten in a van and driving over, even with a toll and parking hassles - it wouldn't have been anywhere near $110 even if we took both cars over.
I'll be going this year and may consider the bus ride again unless I can fill my van to split some cost and just drive over. If I have room, I may take on a few Ontario Rodders -I'll anounce it here a little closer to show time!

Yeah , you're right , it probably doesn't make sense financially but I just don't like driving and parking in downtown Detroit ......it's my problem . Things have changed there over the years and now that I'm an old fart I'm a little more safety conscious ( maybe overly so ) ...too many crazies in Motown ....too many quick-trigger-finger brothas , sad to say .
