cross flow as a down flow

In looking for a rad for the HJ one fellow(on the internet) recommended using a cross flow as a down flow. They look the same and I would think they flow the same in either down or cross direction. Anyone actually used a cross flow as a down flow?

thats what i use on my rat rod, i have a jag rad that i rotated and use a down flow, seems to work fine.  only thing different i had to do was use an in hose rad cap from a dodge dakota as the jag rad has no rad filler neck

In down flow rads the tanks are located at the top and bottom of the core. The coolant enters through the top tank,  trickles down  the tubes helped by gravity easing the work of the water pump. On the cross flow, the tanks are located on the sides of the rad core, allowing the pump to push the coolant across the core from right to left. Cross-flow will allow the rad cap to be  located at lowest point on the low-pressure side of the system, which prevents the pressure created by a high-flow water pump from forcing coolant past the rad cap at high rpm. Cross-flow systems are available in single, double,  even triple pass orientation. They  give the rad the ability to cool the fluid sevearal times by separating the coolant to be cooled from coolant which already has been cooled….they also allow for running a higher pressure cap which raises the boiling point That can be a good thing on a hot day..with the a/c on..

I thought u couldn't run a cross flow in a up right position . I thought it wouldn't cool properly as the flow would only be at the hose inlet ..77. or some thing like that.

Not to be impolite to anyone, so fatstax car won't cool down? I have asked this on a HenyJ site and one fellow used a T-Bird cross flow as a down flow and has no issues. In looking at the construction of the rads they both flow from one tank to the other, so I don't understand why it would not flow down instead of across???

A rad core, is a rad core. It's not rocket science. Henry, if you can weld aluminum, or know someone that can, then just buy a racing aluminum core from "Howe" and build your own tanks. I built my own as a down flow and have had zero issues.
