The wheels look great, but they were never part of the plan. I'll eventually be going for 15 inch steels with white walls, but that's waaaaay down the road.

Today I'm chopping the rear of the body to bring it up to the correct height.

as you will see in the picture, the coachline has moved up. I will be cutting that section out and adding a sort of end design to finish off the door line.

I will also be raising the rear window, making it wider and shorter. Pics to follow...

Wellll, doesn't time fly!!!!

Ok, before I raise the back, I need to fix the wonky window. Easiest way is to cut the whole thing out... (wish I had given myself more border, but hey, I'm new to this)

As you can see, the window was narrower on the left than the right

Once removed, I noticed the previous builder has overlapped the frame. This is great as I plan to widen the window, so I can use the existing frame

I now have four sections to square up. Losts of missing and bad metal unfortunately

Need to start somewhere

It would be daft to make a peice to fit this..

So I'll cut a sensible shape

Start with the right length

Bend the top section..

But it needs a slight curve, so I use me specialized equipment here

next bit was tricky as I had to bend it into a Z (more specialized equipment..)

Not to bad, lots of back and forward to make it as close a fit as possible, very time consuming, but hey, I have time..

welding with flux core is garbage, just saying, lol

not too bad, hey, it's a rat rod

squared up the other parts and stitched them all together. Ran out of time (noise) so will tidy it all up tomorrow

Im just really confused . if you move the rear section up 2 " its going to be 2" short at the bottom It might work in photoshop. but the distance your after has to be a gain between the base and the revel .

looking good Dave . I had visions of you cutting the whole back of the car off,

Glad you have went the route of baby steps till you get the hang of welding

and metal shaping, big difference between welding 3/16 new steel and 18 gauge rusty steel.

I would try and get your machine running on mig gas and regular wire before hacking off the back.

Keep going on the small stuff for now ,it all has to get done !!!!

Your metal shaping equipment looks the same as what I started out with. You know about the 2 pieces of angle iron in a vise trick right. It works real nice as well. I have two pieces 5ft long about 3/16 thick that I used to make door bottoms and such. You use vice grips to clamp the areas out side of the vises range. You can also attach one piece of the angle iron to the door bottom as a dolly with vice grips to bent the edge over nice and neat(unless you have a curved door bottom) You get the picture. Looking good Dave.
