Dan, if you "talk" nice to StarChoice or threaten to cancel you can work a "deal" with them, after spk. to supervisor. still have to pay the $5:99 mth chrg but better than paying full price for unit. I told them that Bell had just approached me to "switch" & get free HD rec. Wasn't long getting mine for only the shipping cost. Think they may have "killed" my old one for signal, but haven't tried out in shop yet???

Yeah , I tried that. I phoned 2 times to see if I could get a deal but they still wanted $199 for one, which IMO is too high for the shop. I found a couple used ones with remotes today and went and picked them up. They're not HD, but got them both for $25. That's less than the tax on a new one. Still need a receiver though !!
Dan, you'll need a separate dish to use the older receivers if you've already got HD in the house. No big deal though, I have 3 dishes to run 5 recievers (1 on the house and 1 on each of two shops out back)- no HD though (They run a different LNB). While the main dish appears the same, the latest LNB will pick up all three of Shaw's satellite signals!

Maybe the older receivers will run on a newer LNB, but not visa versa? I dunno. The last time they came out they were going to give me a free HD upgrade receiver, but said I wouldn't be able to swap around the receivers like I can now. I guess he meant I couldn't take the HD receiver out to one of the shops without upgrading those LNBs too. I declined the offer because I thought I would have to upgrade the other two in the house on my dime, thinking that the older receiver wouldn't work with the new HD LNB. Maybe I should rethink that?

I'm with Bell. Didn't buy any receivers. Have a PVR and a second receiver in the house, both HD and only pay $7.00 for the second receiver. They also installed a HD receiver in the shop with it's own dish so they didn't have to run cable over and it too is $7.00. The PVR is $16.86 I'm very happy with their service and fees.
Geez, you Guys have me thinking now!! I know I have the newest LNB, with 2 HD receivers hooked up to it, with provisions for 2 more. If it doesn't work, I only have $25 into it, so no biggy. Thanks for the heads up.
It will work...You do know you have to register/activate the receiver with Shaw?

Thanks Poncho. Yes I know about registering, but will wait till things warm up a bit before I run a cable to the dish. I currently have satellite in the shop, but the TV signal is being fed from the receiver which is located in the house ( about 90ft away). I've been using a UHF remote to change channels, but I'm getting tired of doing a dance everytime I want to change channels because of the weak remote signal.
