Today my 90 chevy Silverado blew a fuse. It is the courtesy circuit that's the radio , dome lts, cargo lts. Anyone here know of a good place to start to find the short?

All I did was start the truck this morning and had the drivers door open and after about 3 minutes there was a pop (probably the fuse) and the radio stopped .

Did you replace the fuse and did it blow again. Was the radio on when the dome was on .How many lights.Has this fuse been replaced before.Maybe it blew because it is 14yrs old and was at maximum load for a long period of time.I see this happen with appliances all the time and even circut brakers ware out after a few years. Check the cigarette lighter, that's the #1 cause I have found for that fuse to blow.

I had the same problem with my 90 suburban it would happen when I used cig lighter with radio on.I cant remember but I think it took out taillights along with horn also.with all the plastic in the dash they used a common ground for pretty well every thing in dash circuit.a friend had a blazer same problem a pain in the azz.I wonder in your case if with door open and dome and and other lights on that circuit in combination with warning buzzer caused it to blow.you may have had radio on also hard to beleive they use a common ground with light gauge wire.hopefully this is your problem.the only solution I came up with was not to blow horn listen to radio open doors with dome light on or putting on brakes while using any of the listed items.seemed to piss a lot of people off that were not aware of the problem.:eyepoppng:

if you guys had seen the trouble at the spaghetti factory wiring Ed had in his 55 you would have ran for the hills, until I got the wire cutters out, the horror, tell them about that day Ed.

well I spent 4 hrs so far and still the problem exists. I found a wiring diagram and determined what circuits are on the blowing fuse. It is the cab interior lights & radio, cargo light. So I removed each under dash bulb and checked to see if I had an open circuit for the fuse...nothing....then disconnected the dome and cargo harnesses.....nothing.....then disconnected the dimer switch...nothing still a short.....then began to wiggle the harness under the dash.....still a short! I also checked the harnesses for any wear or contact with metal!
stopped for lunch then back at it

HURRAY ITS FIXED........... well I had disconnect 2 of 3 circuits running under the drivers door sill because the 3rd had no connector...so I cut one of the 2 wires and tried the fuse and it didn't blow. This was the dome light and last summer I had replaced the headliner so something was done wrong. Later when the trucks not my daily driver I will trace the short.
I also will replace the wet carpet with a new vinyl floor from www.stockinteriors.com.
Time to put the dash back together and finish some wobbly pops.

Good news Dennis, some of those problems can be time consuming to track down, along with a great deal of thought!
