Good Mechanic for Stromberg 97's 3x2 setup ?

Trying to find a Mechanic around Barrie/New Market area that's good with setting up Stromberg 97's

I have a 3x2 setup with progressive linkage on a small block chev.

I can trailer the car just about anywhere in the area but not that many guys have experience with 97's.

Anyone know someone good that they can recommend  ? ?

Thanks..

you should be able to do them yourself, a carb is carb, fuel and air mix.  put a vac gauge on the intake and adjust each carb till you are drawing the same vacuum level from all 3 I would think.  the only other thing I can think of is will you idle off all 3 or just one then have the other two work when you accelerate?  that im not so sure about

Tramp,
DO NOT idle off of all 3 it'll drive you crazy. No accelerator pumps and no idle circuits. Use the outboard carbs as secondaries. The 97's are a simple carb with not much to go wrong other than leaking and no big deal to rebuild them. Make sure that the outboard carbs come in at about 60/65 precent throttle and open fully and the end of travel

Tramp, this is a long shot, but you mentioned Barrie,, there was a guy there who was a sharpie at building flatheads, and in his younger days was a hotshoe at stock car racing, if still around i'm betting he may be a great source of information.
Sorry, i cannot remember his name, but some of the older stock car guys would know who he was/is.

Carb rebuilders is no longer in Toronto.I believe they work out of oshawa Whitby?

Like Rochie say's , You want to hook the carbs up to operate progressively

All your tuning done from the center carb. The outer carbs the air fuel mixture turn right off or open maybe an 1/8 of a turn

I believe the guy sasquach is talking about is Len Hurly in Nobolton, Not sure what Len is doing Now ,I havn't spoken to him

lately ,But can ask my dad as he talk's to Len quite often. Great flathead guy and engine builder he has done a few engines for me.

as i stated, if you are going to only idle off the center carb, as i see you said progressive linkage, start the car, start with the idle screw 1 and a 1/4 turn out as your base and hook a vac gauge to the intake, the idea is to draw the most vacumm possible at idle.  the other carbs will be like the secondarys on a 4 barrel.  i think if you adjust the other two carbs like the center one you should be fine

But!!!! And I'm only asking 'cuz I know very little about this. If the two outside carbs only work as secondaries would adjusting them change anything?

At an idle they shouldn't be passing any gas should they?

Just asking

at idle the outer carbs butterly valves should be shut completely, or they will draw fuel/air.  i read some of that stuff about tri power setups and they go on to say you should remove the power valves, block the idle circuits and so on, so those end carbs just become fuel/air adders since you are already off idle with the center  carb, so no need for an extra fuel shot or any idle circuit.

Tramp I have a solution. I sometimes do the Friday night thing in Bradford. Tell your father I have a very nice 4bbl set up on my 31 and I would be more than willing to take that problem away from him. Just think he would not have all that stress anymore..biggrin

Just to re-state, the end carbs are different than the centre. I tried using this set up many yrs. ago with all three carbs being the same, DIDN"t WORK!!! filled the crankcase with fuel!!!! End carbs MUST have idle circuit blocked off & accelerator pump Gone Or look for the proper end carbs which will be hard to find!!!! Progressive linkage can be "home grown" but is also a must!! pete

I used to do them for another engine shop. I quit because the kits I was getting were so old the gaskets were shrunk to the point of being unusable and I would spend far too much time trying to make replacements. I am sure somewhere someone has fresh kits but he never found them.
