Here is a quote from a poster on this site: "2014 Premium fuel now has ethanol in it, not just regular. There are only 4 refineries in Canada, so you are getting ethanol in your gasoline. And NO the Governments did not serve notice of this".
Since this is the first I have heard of this, I decided to contact Shell directly to see if this statement is correct as I understand their V-Power fuel is ethanol free. The information that follows came directly from Shell:
Our V-Power gas is still 0% ethanol free. If there was a change on the content of the product we will inform our customers.

I got this response on Feb 27, 2014
With all the confusion regarding ethanol content and the debating whether or not any of the available additives actually do anything worthwhile, it's nice to know that there really is an ethanol free gasoline still available. Now you just have to decide which is better or possibly cheaper route to take, do I add something to regular fuel to (hopefully) combat the issues of ethanol content or do I simply purchase ethanol free gas?
Went and found the post on another form here is what it said
Another little factoid:
Most refiners addd gas-line antifreeze to all grades of their gasoline during the winter for easier cold weather starting and to keep any water condensation suspended.
Gas-line antifreeze is ethanol.
Shell would not confirm if it does or does not do this to their winter grade premium fuel.
Calgary Co-Op has confirmed that they do not add gas-line antifreeze to any of their winter gasoline grades
UPDATE Response from Esso: ethanol-blended gasoline is currently available at participating Esso service stations in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Stations selling ethanol-blended gasoline have a label on the pump indicating the gasoline may contain up to 10 percent ethanol.
I go to the " INDIAN RESERVE" at Port Perry as much as possible as their gas has "NO Ethanol" in all grades!! Was told it's "marine grade" fuel??? Milage went up, cost went down so I'm HAPPY & use Shell Premium when I can't get to Island Reserve sta.

. Lots of older carbs out there with there original gasketing /seals that will turn to mush in months . This topic has surfaced before but upgading all the rubber components is a must now. There are additives out there to combat the alcohol . There are many newer retrofit kits for carbs on the market ,really good idea to update what you have just in-case. If any one is runnin a Quadrajet...i know the ugly hated one , a good source is Cliff Ruggles out of Ohio. He has lots of inventory and the right stuff. Isnt this hobby for fun ,seems theres always another issue to deal with ahhh.

I had a problem last spring with an O-ring on one of my injectors because of this crappy fuel. I had store it with ethanol-free fuel, but the o-ring still swelled. Keeping my fingers crossed for this spring.
Thanks Slim. I know I will have to replace some this year because I used o-rings from those cheap Princess Auto kits (buna-n I think ). I can get them locally but didn't know what material to get to be compatible with ethanol. Thankfully all my other components are designed for ethanol fuels. The o-rings that failed were located on the throttle body of my Holley Pro-jection, which you would think should already be ethanol safe.
Thanks for letting me know what material to get.

I have read that all fuel north of Muskoka is ethanol free all grades. maybe Janie can chime in here. They say it is not advertised. Perhaps they do their blending in the southern part of the province and trucking becomes a factor who knows.
As far as I know the only refineries that are left are in the southern part of the province. Not to say that they are not blended else ware . the only refinery for ethanol is somewhere like Saskatchewan .
Found this on a green gasoline page this morning. The mandated 5% ethanol in fuel is averaged over all grades at stations to make them comply so they add a bit more of this rotting crap in the low grade fuels so the premium will remain uneffected yet also tempting the consumer to go for the extra 12-15 cents per litre to get it. Smart marketing, rotten conscience builder....
In case you care to know or didn't know, these are official responses from Shell, Ultramar and Petro Canada
Shell Response: Shell V-Power Premium (91 Octane) is Ethanol Free across Canada.
Ultramar Response: Ultramar does not add any ethanol to the "supreme" gasoline throughout it's network of stations from Ontario to Labrador.
Petro Canada Response: All grades of fuel sold at Petro-Canada contain up to 10% ethanol.
Canadian Tire Response: there is no ethanol in premium fuel.
Esso Response : Our premium unleaded gasoline does not contain ethanol.

I bought Shell V-Power yesterday and read the sticker on the pump. It stated that V-Power does not have any ethanol in it. Then I noticed the small print on the same sticker ..... can't remember the exact quote but it said something like "where available".
So it sounds like they are saying "our V-Power does NOT have any ethanol in it ...... BUT it might have ethanol in it".
Take the steps now to protect your vehicles. Ethanol in gasoline of all grades is coming, and in some instances already here. The Green People have convinced our Politicians that will be better for us all. The potential damage is considerable and expensive. They don't care. They need the tax $$$ to buy votes. The Green people need a Victory, even if they are wrong. Start now to reduce the effects of the ethanol in your gasoline AND Diesel engines, or start Stamp Collecting.
