sometime ago i chirped off on a thread about my guess on how we got the 53ft doubles on ont hiways by the big companies agreeing to the 112kpm speed limit and you get the doubles.
a bit ago wynne was talking 15% discounts on auto insurance in ontario and i predicted yes we will probably get it but we will have cameras on the dash for the 15% off from the companies.
anybody heard the news on a 10% discount if you put a black box in for the companies to chart your driving habits. it has started and you are warned. i can see this being mandated.
I dread the day they mandate it. That will just force me to go out a sell my current ride and find a pre-1986
That or tar the sh!te out of the bottom of my 58 and use it as a daily driver year round.
It'll eventually be integrated into new cars and you won't even know about it. BIG BRO. Dumb enough to run from the cops? They'll just shut your car off and lock you in it. BIG BRO. Info gathered will be sold to companies that want to know where you go to shop, how long you spend in your car, where you buy your gas, whether or not you frequent drive -thru and how often. BIG BRO.
They'll make it seem like it's for your benefit. Then, just for example, you apply for life insurance and they say: " you spend a lot of time at fast food restaurants, that's why your premiums are so high. BIG BRO.

That and Have a good time trying to hook that thing to 6v, positive ground.

fordy you are not far off. one of my buds who has business in the states but lives up here in vancouver went to raise his life insurance up by a big chunk at age 61 approx. up here would be a big physical exam. down there it was a saliva swab. they are watching.
We are already being followed and monitored by GPS units and our cell phones. Onstar has a built in scanning system. My GPS is turned off on my cell but it seems to know the weather where I am. I don't do much wrong but I will answer to my own faults and pay such penalties. Trying to beat the system takes too much time and time is all we got, so pay and play and know your limits. Amen.......

Wont be seeing the 15% anyways, unless the NDP are stupid enough to prop up the Libs again.
Let me rephrase that....The dummies will prop up the Libs and we will be promised 15%, but never see it
we will only get the 10 or 15% after they raise it by 20 25%.the insurance companies will get the ok from graberment by convincing the them that it will benefit the minions.only then will they offer discount stating that it will benefit us by having the box.I agree also with the information they will gather.can you say big brother dont forget to smile.
I wonder if they can do us any more favors. Honestly they must think the rest of the world is as brain dead as they are . So they say we will discount you between 10 and 15 % so an average 12.5 % but then we will claw back 13% hst so there you go ACE your a prefered customer of the Ontario government were you get nothing for more.
Just got a letter from the group insurer for OACETT offering 25% off if I drive a low distance, during off hours and with a black box to record my driving habits. I find this intrusive and it's not going to happen on my car.
Wonder what is needed for an Insurance Co-op...besides a few million set aside for claims? Would it even be doable? Getting enough people to agree and put up the capital would be like herding cats with a stick.

SO if you don't drive much and when you do drive its only a short distance when theres less traffic and they want to record your every move for a 25% premium reduction. Now I ask you, aren't insurance companies just the best there is? Super Deal-----NOT.
they are testing driver less cars in London now. No driver all gps and photo sensing technology. No driver no insurance I bet that never happens. It wont be long before the insurance companies rule the roads and there will be no choice. 20 years till we have no choice.

I'm expecting to see that we'll probably have a choice, but it'll be an expensive one. I'd love a google car to take me to work, but I'd still expect to be able to drive my own vehicle.
Personally, after the drunks and texters I see on my commute into Stratford, I'd like for autonomous cars to hurry up. I think many people just don't wanna drive. Let them sit in the passenger seat then.
Just caught an article, we will likely start to see this as an option. Personally, I don't like the idea of monitoring a driver, because
unless you go all-in and put a camera on the driver, just looking at speed isn't going to say too much. Nearly everyone drives 100 in an 80 around here,
but according to insurance, that would be a no-no.
coulkd I put the monitor in my grand cherokke e and crv then go drive the wheels offa my hot rod an the woman,s trans am ??. and get a discount on the suv,s ins policies ..Hmmmmmmmm ..77.

The next step in vehicle monitoring by the government could be a device that records the km traveled by electric cars. That would be used to determine how much road tax to collect since these cars don’t use any gas so they don’t pay any “gas” tax – they would pay by the km instead of by the liter. There’s a push in the USA at both the state and Federal levels to collect cash from electric car owners in lieu of the taxes they avoid at the gas pumps. Maybe they might apply the same thing to other vehicles if their fuel economy gets too good? Ironic isn’t it – the government mandates fuel economy then complains they’re losing money on the deal because the cars don’t use as much gas so they don’t get the taxes!

or, just keep raising the tax's on the fuel that is being used to make up for the shortfall in tax money.
here is a twist, older good used hiway tractor prices have gone up a fair bit do to no computer to put the speed limiter on. seems older aged owner/operators who don't run the long miles as much anymore are scooping up the reasonably good ones and putting them on the road minus the computers. good for them.
