Automotive Memorabilia decorative or decorative junk
Permalink

Seems to be some opinion's that auto memorabilia is not decorative and doesn't

belong in the rec room or house!!!

My basement is decoratated by all things automotive. Most people that visit just love it as

much as I do. Things from this era well made and colorful and will never be made again!!

The posters and oil cans are colorful and art deco, as are the rim wind and key wind car clocks

with their porceline faces and stunning hands. Even my wife loves the stuff ,a lot of it she bought as well

What your opinion and lets see the things that decorate your home

Basements are just that, basements !! A place to build rec-rooms, man caves, hobby rooms etc... If I wanted high end furniture to impress my snobbish friends, I would put it where it belongs !! In the living room !!. Basements are a place to kick your shoes off and put your feet up.

I want to live in a Snap-on diorama.

snap-on.jpg

I love automotive memorabilia. It's such great sight to pull up to a rodders garage and see a functioning Eco air meter mounted on the outside wall. And the sound of a functioning one with the dinger going off!!!

To me there are automotive themed and recreation themed caves.

They can be distinctly different or co mingled. There's the jukebox, fuseball, slotmachine, pinball, billiards, coca cola, Betty Boop type environment, more suited to a recroom and the Snap-on, cabinetry, flooring, lifts, nostalgic garage equipment, tin signage type, chrome environment suited to a garage. I do think an Eco air meter on a pedistal is more suited to an automotive themed cave, just as a jukebox would be more suited to a recroom. But it's totally up to the owner, what the feel should be.

There's a big crowd out there who are into rust. I had a guy in the other day looking for old rusty ( translation: patina) tailgates from 30s and 40s. He wanted to make foldown shelving and seating for his cave. What a great idea!

My wife tells everyone the whole house is a man cave. Lots of scavenged junk as i'm
not rich enough to be a serious collector any more.

I work in my garage building cars primarily but is my workshop as well

I do have some memorabilia in there although not much it would get ruined fast

I only buy when the stuff is cheap and only at markets. Bought a Milton service station bell

last summer at ancaster for 20.00 ,the smiles that thing creates when people step on the hose

is great. my 2 younger boy's didn't have a clue what it was used for, but then again I had to show the 12

year old how to dial our payphone LOL

A lot of my car junk collection is too nice to be in the basement. It's in the living room where I can admire it. Visitors like it too.

I'm single....

Hang in there! A good women will appreciate the better pieces of your collection as well.

the trick is to make her a deal that for each piece you can no longer display or keep.......she has to get rid of a pair of shoes. And its only fair you get to choose the ones she has to get rid of.wink

no I cant believe I just told you that. lol

Automotive memorabilia is a great conversation starter, it puts a smile on the faces of anyone that walks in the room. biggrin

Just like our vehicles we are preserving the past by collecting memorabilia from another life time. Instead of these things winding up in the junk yard we are taking them and appreciating them and putting them on display. Your providing a chance to see a piece of history.

Thumbs up to all those who collect memorabilia. thumbsup.gif

Mine was wired for 220v. The bulb has a major size screw-in. I put 110v into it and it still worked well so I might re-wire it for 110.

You can buy an adapter to fit the large base bulbs and will accept a regular size based bulb

Then you only have to change the wire. My lights in my living room were removed from a church

and also use the adapters. You can by them at home depot . The Moron

Oh those lights are beautiful Joe. good score there!! Lets hope some of the "church karma" came with them and gives ya a little "wiggle room" wink

I'd be afraid a bolt of lightening would strike me down just trying to put something from a church in my place
