Stock Engine Rebuilds
Permalink

I'm looking to get a stock C-code 289 two barrel rebuilt and need an experienced machinist with a good reputation, all at a reasonable cost. It will be a stock rebuild, cast pistons, mileage cam, etc... I could even assemble it after machining to save some dough

I'll also drive a little(within reason) to save some cash (I is po'). Hit me with your suggestions and I'll check 'em out.

Buy your engine kit off of Ebay, get the machining done and assemble yourself. I rebuilt a GMC 2.2 a couple of years ago, and the kit was dirt cheap as well as the shipping. All brand name parts. If you're interested I'll try and find the place I bought it from. I will definitely go this route in the future. My 2 cents.

Thanks Hemi, I'd appreciate that contact info.

I did my last 302 engine this way - new rod and main bearings because the crank was awesome and the bores were good. The heads were not the greatest, with a couple of burnt valves and no hardened seats, so I put on some later 5.0 heads and adjustable rockers. I think I was well under $400 with bearings, oil pump, gaskets, assembly lube and the new rockers(which was most of the cost) - I had the heads.

The engine I'm doing this time is very tired with barely any oil pressure and full of gunk, but has the standard bore. The cylinders will likely need .030" or 0.040" over and the crank will likely need a 0.010" cleanup, but I don't anticipate any need for a line bore or rod re-sizing - just a good hot tank session and the basics.

Here's an example of a 289 kit, not sure what a "C" code is !!
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/289-302-Ford-master-engine-kit-stock-cam-1963-1982-pistons-timing-gaskets-OP-/171114950877?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27d73ef0dd&_uhb=1
They sell kits in all different levels also. Falcoglobal is the seller and they are located in Florida, but have warehouses all over the US. Like I said, I bought from them, and was extremely happy with parts quality as well as shipping costs. I priced the same parts up here for my engine rebuild, and it was going to be 4 times the cost just in parts.

Sounds good Dan, I'll check it out!

A 'C'- code is a very basic low compression 2 barrelno, not the desirable "Hi-Po" 4 barrelbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin.

It sounds like the kit I listed is the right one, and it's on sale for the next 2 days. $314 for a complete kit including cam and lifters is unreal, and I don't know how they can sell this stuff so cheap. Here in Canada, the jobbers would charge us that much for the cam.

And if you talk to them directly through the ebay address they probably have upgrades available. i.e.,higher compression pistons and so on. Of course the price goes up a little but thats a decision you'll have to make.

Yes, I realize that some are put together as cheap as possible. There are at least two stores that specalize in these kits using only quality brands like Sealed Power, Federal Mogal, Fel-Pro Etc... -These are the ones I'm planning on using. I've got to pull the crank and measure to determine if it needs grinding and how much for ordering  0.010" or 0.020" undersize bearings. The bores have some taper, but should clean up with 0.030".

There was no Chinese brand parts in the kit I got from them. Not to say some of the parts were not made in China, because who knows where they get their stuff made. Pistons were Sealed Power, rings were hastings, bearings were Clevite Gasket set was Victor, timing chain was Cloyes and oil pump was Melling. I have almost 40K on the engine now with no issues.

Same price as Falconglobal on Ebay, but they include timing chain and gears, plus cam and lifters.

I was also looking at kits from "Clegg Engine" on E-bay - very similar to Falcon Global although not as cool a name. Good name brand stuff though.

I was thinking what was so cool about the name, then it dawned on me !! LOL

There's probably a few companies on E-bay selling engine kits, and all will probably be competitive. Either way you go, you'll save a fortune for the same quality components.

Yeah, I missed the sale from the first one you posted, but I need to know my 'new' finisned bore sizes and journal "tune-up" sizes. Oh well, it was under $17 difference.

Douglas Engine in Brantford for this area. Don is the original President of the Brantford Piston Pushers from 1954. His son Dan works there also and they KNOW engines. I've heard some of the other ELTA brothers mention Dave Dickout in the past too...much more local to you in London.
