trying to order a pinion seal for a buddys truck, a 95 s truck.  they list a 7.5 and a 8.5 rear axle for this truck, i ever only thought they used the gm 10 bolt rear in these trucks.  is the 10 bolt the 8.5?  i cant remember off hand.  what would the 7.5 be then?  im almost thinking that austrailian rear end they used in some irocs, the weird 9 bolt one

i figured it out, the 8.5 and the 7.5 are both ten bolts but the 8.5 is slightley larger and different.  his truck has the 7.5

the little ears at the bottom of the diff that stick out.... on the 7.5" pointy and on the 8.5" they're 90*.

Unless it is an S10 extreme or a 4x4 with an off road package, both with a 5 speed, it will have the 7.5.

As mentioned above, they are easy to identity. If it has two little "teeth" sticking out on the bottom corners at an angle, it is a 7.5. The 8.5 is much larger and squared off on the bottom with no little teeth sticking out.
