1968 CAMARO SS........ WORTH?

I ran across this 68 camaro ss 4 speed car  about 2 years ago,  fast forward to today after I talked with the owner and he says $2500 for the body front end etc and the car has the original 12 bolt underneath it with posi and 3:73's.  It gets better,  he also says he has the original M21 rebuilt for it also.   The bad is that the body has the typical issues for this type of car.  So  is it worth me losing my right nut to get it or not?     Thanks in advance for the replies   confuse

It's worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

Only if you have another $30,000 to spend to finish it.

These days, the Muncie and 12 bolt would be worth close to the 2500...take it from there

Certainly sounds interesting but pics would really help.

Does it have an engine? Interior? etc etc or is it just an empty, gutted shell with no windows and tons of rot?

As mentioned, the rear and the trans are pricey items. You might be able to part the car out (if it's a total rotten mess) and make some money off it.

I would take the $2500 and go to SEMA in Vegas.

Buy the Camaro, head to Vegas, make enough money in Vegas to finance the restoration. biggrin

UPDATE The interior is there, windows etc are present but the rot really scares me.  there is no engine but he says the rest from the engine back  is available. The price is not a typo, but the only way I figure that this would see the road again is if you used the parts on a new body  (like Kurt says 30 k later).

Seems to me, that there is not much there to go with. Rotten body, and no engine. So it will never be a numbers match car, which is what would make it valuable. Better off buying a good shell for $2,500. IMO.
Although, like previously mentioned, the trans. and rear axle have some value, not $2,500. worth but a fair chunk.
How's the interior, dash, gauges, console, pedals, etc...?

well i just did a 68 cammy for a guy, his is a big block 4 gear car, he paid 5000 for it, i replaced the firewall, floor, rockers, trunk, back pan, inner fenders and quarters.  now its an all steel car, that part cost him over 6000 not including my labour.  if you can grab it for that money, even if you spend the cake to make it all steel it will be worth easy alot more then you would have into it.

Kind of hard to figure out what's included in the 2500 price. if its extra ...extra ....extra and you have to pay someone to do the restore. ... you will be in large by the time its done.

So, he's $11k, in it, not including your labour (what's your labour?), sounds to me like about 80 hrs worth of work to replace those panels correctly. And it still needs paint, another $7-$10K, and maybe interior...How's the engine running? Brakes, tires...? Is it a numbers match big block?

I mean, a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but....

I would probably buy because I can most likely fix it, and I have a lot of parts laying around for it let over from my old 67'. If you don't have the skills, or a good parts stache' you would be far ahead to buy a better body.

Here are the important questions:

Do I have the skills to fix the car? If not, do I have the money? If I have neither can I flip it for a few $$$? If I am going to buy it, does it have a clear ownership?

If you are getting the car, then options and condition become very important.

Does the trans come with the car or is it extra?
How are the frame rails in the rear, and rear shock mounts?
How is the roof?
How is the firewall?
Is the car bent?
Standard or deluxe interior?
What options?
Is it a real SS?

If you don't want it, it might be worth it in karma to pass it onto someone like slab as a project for his kit.
