Bobby Hull Match Race, Way Back When
Permalink

You old timers may recall a match race of sorts which took place at St. Thomas, or Cayuga, back around '67 or so which (I believe) took place between Bobby Hull and Eddie Shack? I think the 2 cars used were a '66 or 7 Comet Cyclone and a '65 or 6 Chevy. How's that for vague details? Anyways, Im wondering if anybody has details about this one? Who won etc.

Much appreciate the feedback.

Doug

Bobby Hull and Eddie Shack had a match race? I wonder how much alcohol was involved? Oh in 67 the guess the drinking and driving laws didn't exist then.

Seems to me Eddie shack was the Ford Driver.
I'm thinking RKirkpatrick posting here will know this.

if I remember correctly the race was at Deseronto (Mohawk) and the cars were both the same, I think 428 Cobra Jets and Bobby won the best two out of three.

I remember reading about that not long ago on some site. One car was a 66 Chevy that Shack drove and the other was a 67 Ford the Hull drove. There was a pick, I'm off to go find it.

I could be wrong, but isn't that a 65 Chev?

Interesting that Shack was driving the Chev, as later he was into Fords going around to dealers promoting them.

I'm no Chevy expert, but I'd have to say Yes. The only absolute for me would be the tail lights, round or flat.

Definitely a '65. I believe T/A was going on memory, before he dug out the clippings.

Yep she was a 65 Impala. I should have looked at the picture a little closer, lol. I'm not sure on the year on the Fairlane either.
