hey all not really car related but in a way it is or could be considered car related .
I have a Chinese knock off atv that uses a Chinese knock off of a Honda engine 100 cc , 4 stroke an uses a 6 pole magneto . its been decades since I fiddled with a mag on any thing .
my question is , the atv has a battery electric start lights etc . I,ve kinda looked around an service manuals are non eggsistent . the mag should it get power when the key is turned on or not , or should it make its own power , the service guy at a parts supply place said oh yea just replace the mag set up
it is this one should the red black wire get power , or give power . tomorrow I,m gonna ohm meter that wire to check an see if it goes to the regulator . maybe a stoopid question , but memory banks are failing me right now , and this is the ol lady,s pit bike when we go to the drags . we got it for my woman to use at the drags strips , to save having to walk back an forth to the pits , the stands , food shack , the can etc . any Chinese knock off atv owners out there ????. thanks ..77.

the mag is as it says, a magneto which does not require external power to produce power or spark. dragsters use mags since they don't require a battery to make spark. your machine has six pole cause some of them do the spark and the others are the charging part to keep the battery up. some machines only have an ignition mag so no lights or electric start. my buddy in town here sells those bikes I could get you his number.
yea it just kinda threw me off with the accessories and charging . all my old mag dirt bikes were just to run the ignition only no lights accessories etc . going to royal distributing tomorrow an pick up a mag/stator assem an maybe a spare cdi unit just in case .
thanks for the back up . and I just got reamed thoroughly by a buddy of mine , saying I should know how to fix one of these with out a manual ha ha ..77.

Some bikes have a starter/alternater combo too. It can still be a magneto ignition but since it has the battery, accessories, lights and electric start, it could be one of these start/alt combos - something else to look into. What is the issue? Ignition? ....or charging?

By the picture in the link its a mag \ alternator . With the lack of information id guess no spark. find the kill switch wire on the CDI if is a 5 pin it should be the center wire . release it from the connector and plug it back together use a spare plug and test for spark . if it sparks the kill switch / ignition /regulator is grounding out. if you still have no spark it can only be the mag \CDI or the coil of course you checked the plug and plug wire already on the 70s honda all you had to do was unplug the ignition switch and use the kick start to hotwire one.
was not charging , fiddled around fixin a few lil things here an there , woman was driving it around , it back fired , quit , no more spark , got another mag /stator set up tryin it in a few minutes ..77.

ok new mag set up and black wire broke off terminal of cdi box plug . runs better idles stronger an feels more peppy-er ???. gonna jack up the back end an let it run to check charging . yee haw . momma gonna be happy now , and saves on her three jobs , tired legs from having to walk all those distances at the drags or other event s ..77.
charging is great , more power to coil better spark an brighter lights also , so the whole unit was fried . fixed for 62 bucks ...77.
