Can you guys have a look and let me know if it looks like I've done this correctly? It's a GM 7.5" 10 bolt.
I haven't tried to adjust it yet. I was kinda just curious if everything looks like it's sitting correctly. Is the parking brake strut on the back shoe properly?
ps I just realized I didn't back off the e-brake cable before assembling, was trying to figure out why I had so much friction with the adjuster all the way in.....
I took a few pics of the previous rear end I had before it left so that helped. I was just not sure why the shoes seemed to be out so far out and off the post and I hadn't even adjusted anything. Was more resistance than I would thought there should be. Then I backed off the e-brake cable and the drum went on nice and easy and I can adjust them now. Thanks though!
My 1st drum brake experience was with an 8.5" rearend in a GM fullsize truck. I was wondering why I couldnt get the new drums on as the new shoes wouldnt allow the drum to slide on. My Dad gets home and sees that I'm having a bad go of it. Takes one looks at what I'm doing and says "it will work better for you with you dont try and install teh 2 thick shoes on teh same side of teh truck".
I didnt even know there was a "thick" and "thin" shoe, 1 for each brake assembly.
Live and learn.
Be sure to do a few brake stanbs while travelling in reverse every once and a while. Thats how the brakes self adjust, at least thats what their supposed to do. Properly adjdusted rears really help to save the front brakes.
lol that's actually what my father told me before I started the drum brakes. He said make sure you put the right shoes on the right side of the drum. Actually Chris Stapley on here told me the same thing too.
