All topped up with undies from Christmas, and my knees and back can't take walking for miles on the uneven ground. Besides, Barrie is no longer the "Mecca" of swap meets that it used to be. There are a lot of smaller meets that can compare quite easily, and they are a lot closer to boot. IMHO

I'll be there either Friday or Sunday. It's still the closest one to me so hard for me to not go plus my wife likes the nic nacs that everyone else bags on so it turns into a nice day for us away from the kids.

I find that all it takes is to find one thing we're looking for and then "Barrie is awesome!!" LoL....if not "yeah Barrie sucks!".

Really if you have nothing better to do and no friends the amusement factor is worth the price of admission. Was there 4 years ago and sat and watched some vender lose his mind selling some nick knack junk.   as people would walk past pick something up ask how much and then set it down . Also after wandering through the show and almost time to leave I came across a wiper motor I had been looking for problem was some couple had it in there hand trying to talk the vender down . The price he was asking was reasonable and they are not that plentiful so I stood and listened until they put the part down and said we will think about it . So I picked the part up and payed the man what he was asking  . Man where they pissed like I had stole it from them   we had a good laugh , vender even offered me a beer for the entertainment. So as I said If you got nothing to do it can be good for a laugh or two but lately I just haven't been that bored . If it was closer  it might be a different story but with gas and entry + parking , leaf tickets would be cheaper.

Agree Slim, last time i was there i sat down by the entrance to get a break, and it was hilarious watching people trying to carry out stuff they bought that was heavy!
A big guy had bought a snap on top chest and was carrying it up on his shoulder, his face was beet red, thought he was going to have a heart attack!

It is the closest one for us as well. A great day away from work for Art and I to enjoy/relax.
I would love to be able to make it down to Fleetwood cruise but I probably cant do both/the whole weekend.
After the winter we just had......I'll take what I can get.

I don't know about back there, but out here there are kids with wagons that will lug your goodies out to your car for a couple bucks.

Well worth it.

I was planning on going Friday then heading to the Country Cruise-in afterwards. I called Steve Plunkett and he said we could camp right on his property but had to be there before 3:00 on Friday. Kinda put the nail in the coffin for the Barrie flea market for me.

Next time I have a beer night here with the Boys, you just may have to come over and have a couple. Get Ed to drive !!smilesmile

All the shows around here anything real heavy no one has a problem with you just driving up and loading it. Barrie seems to be the only one with a problem with drunk's and people getting out of hand

There were guys/kids that would take out heavy items, but this was a "Mocho" guy by the looks of him, or he didn't want to pay a couple bucks to the kid to take it out. It was like 90F , and when the guy crossed the road to the parking lot he literaly mostly dropped the box , them sat on it totaly whipped! Lol

Pretty obvious that you never went when it was the place to go Rob, Don Haney has ruined it so badly since when it "was" a
viable market, we had a lot of years there with "many" spaces, our family along with many of our friends had finally had enough of
the constant stacking of rules, cost etc.. and didn't think it was viable to keep going to an event that was clearly only paying our expenses anymore if that..
My father has been doing the flea market thing since the first event in Hershey in 1959, we have a pretty good grasp on what a decent flea market
should or should not be like...
Chris.

so you have been going since it was the place to go? I don't think you are much older then me and it moved to burls creek in 1980 wasn't it?  ive been going 25 years and im 40 so a grasp you may have but you are sounding like an authority.  I just don't see how its became this awful thing that nobody wants to attend but I go and sell stuff and its packed every time im there, I guess these folks didn't get the memo?  if people want to boycott barrie I doubt hanney really cares as hes like a hundred and I doubt has much to worry about financially.  im leaving thursday morning so if you are there that's great, ill pour you a rum.  if not ill be trying on my new socks.

You are right fatstax. I've only gone the past couple of years but always found it great! Last year I went back 3 times. Always got some good stuff. It's always a huge turnout. Don't know what the whinning is all about. Maybe it's the $5 parking fee lol?

I don't think anyone will notice the few haters missing.

when I was there the year before last the 5 dollar fee for parking was the breaker for some people, they wouldn't be returning they were saying.

I have not been there in a couple of years and before that only a couple of times.

When I first started my project and was gathering parts, I kept hearing about Barrie, "You have to go to Barrie for your parts, they have everything" over and over people told me to check it out.

So I loaded up, took the day off and went up on a Friday. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I had been told "It's an automotive flea market" all I found was knick knacks, socks and belts. When vendors are selling tables and tables of "stuff" and one carb, or a set of wheels, that does not make an automotive market.

Granted I seem to find something every time I had went up (mostly tools with a couple parts finds). It was not worth the day off and miles of walking through stuff to find anything car related.

If they separated it out between the car stuff and the other stuff, I would be more willing to go back up and check it out. Until then I will stick with Ancaster and the smaller auto swap meets.

I find everything I'm looking for every time I go. Sure there's junk but then again....there's treasure if you care to look hard enough.
