Pulling the intake/exhaust on my 49 dodge, want to do a valve adjustment, but also taking care of the leaking valve cover gaskets.
Problem is, there was a rounded bolt on the exhaust manifold.
Saturday I went to crappy tire, and got these "Grip tite" rounded nut removal tools. They worked worse than just using a socket. geeze. What junk.
Freaking garbage. has this plastic bit inside and little fingers that are supposed to tighten. Well, I should have done my homework, sure enough the internet forums reccomended this thing from irwin. Left hand tapered hard steel spirals...
You can see a diagonal mark where it started to bite in. Awesome.
Guess now I live in the rust belt, I need to get more of these and a better torch right. ;)
Saw those things advertised, and talked about on different forums, but i never have much faith in things like that especially if the ad states, "as seen on TV" ! Lol
I have a set of the hardened spiral ones, Guess what? They are Mastercraft brand. Had them for years and they do work fairly well for getting some of those 50+ year old bolts off.
Yeah, I was in St. Marys and all they offered was the grip-tites. Already have been returned. I'm pretty sure I saw mastercraft spirals like this. Hah.
