I got in late last night and a bit upset that thanks to a bunch of traffic jams in Chicago, Indiana and Michigan, I missed the Remember When Cruise. I haven't even unpacked the car yet, so the camera is still out there holding thousands.....yes I said THOUSANDS of pictures! I will get to it....promiss.
In the mean time, I snagged this shot of me piloting the Cougar through the switchbacks through the amazing Lake Lure, North Carolina area.

Awesome Steve. Great pics above. Definately on the Bucket List of things to do. My son promised me we will do it. Since father/son built the car. Promised me we would do it some day. Looks awesome.
May I ask where you started and finished on your route? How many days driving/stops/hotels/expendatures/Medical Insurance?
Im thinking with all the shows we do in one summer. Might be the same for the trip.
We usually do Woodward,PortHuron,Plunketts, Bothwell, and more plus Sparta every chance we can.
This looks like it would far superseed all of that! Id LOVE to do the Power Tour with my son. I can't get go until he has his licence because of my health.

Hey Tom, the "kick off" was in Concord, NC this year, close to Charlotte, so I drove 14 hours straight starting at 3:30 AM Saturday morning - stopping only for gas. I didn't get too many pics on day 1 at the Z Max 4 wide Dragstrip because there wasn't much time left and lots of participants were heading back to the hotels.
The subsequent stops were Knoxville Tn, Charleston WV, Norwalk Oh, Crown Point In, Bettendorf Iw, and Wisconson Dells Wi. -7 days/ 7 cities!
I didn't get too many hotels - I camped out most nights.
Expendatures? Gas,& oil for the car, drinks, ice and food for me, but I bought groceries so I had breakfast and lunch pretty cheap and only had fast food twice during the tour and twice on the way home. I haven't done a complete tally on the cost yet - not sure I really want to know!
Medical insurance is covered through my job, so no worries there.
It's a great experience to have with your son - I took my youngest 10 years ago when he was 10 years old and he loved it! I took my daughter back in '06 too! Totally worthy of the old bucket list!!! IMO.

Great pic's Steve, ThanX for taking the time to upload them..
I heard that there was a 59 Wagon that got T-Boned?? Any pic's of that? Or did you hear about it?
Thanks Frank, I never heard of any cars getting T-boned, just one unlucky run in with a concrete "K-rail" for a Dodge Little Red Express truck- he was able to continue though.

No, I never do. I just show up and pay. You don't even really have to register to run with the group, but you do get better parking and a bunch of free shwag.

Day 1 : Z Max 4 wide dragstrip, just down the street from Charlotte Motor Speedway. I got ther a little late, so didn't get too many pics after having to register and sticker up my car, but here are a few:
Four lanes - no waiting!
Ted Dzus' Henry J "Hot Rod":
This is Charlie, a driver from "Pilot Transport" piloting a Gen II Camaro towards the hauler:
Sorry, not much cool stuff left at days end.
I saw this and couldn't resist - probably broke or ran out of gas before the end....typical!
Stopped at the local "Choke and Puke" and was blown away by all the memorabillia everywhere you looked!
I dined with a couple of GM designers out of Detroit Michigan who were overwhelmed with the sights and sounds of their first Power Tour. They were driving a Mopar, the co-pilot left his stroker big block Fairlane at home - I saw the pics, would love to see it in person!
The inside was furished with lots to look at while working on a burger, wings and things.
Day 3: Left from Chilhowee Park in Knoxville Tennesee and headed for Charleston West Virginia. State Capital, Downtown Riverfront. Nice enough area, but man, what a fuster cluck getting in there. No large lot for the cars to spill into. I got there fairly early and was rewarded with an angled parking space about as far away from the main stage as I could possibly be- about 40 to 45 minutes to park. Armed with one lousy water and camera in hand, I started walking and snapping shots as I went. I left the car at 12:30 PM and got back from my round trip at about 5:30 PM - somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3 1/2 to 4 linear miles. The only consolation was the overcast skies offering releif from the blistering sun in the begining and the neverending onslot of cars pouring in off the freeway. The camera was getting a good workout and often they were coming at me so quickly that a few ended up partially out of the frame. Sorry, but it was a bit frantic at times, well over 900 photos that day alone!!!
Here are a few to enjoy now and a link to see the rest at the bottom of the post
^ Mob scene!!!!
State Capital building:
....and for the cars, cars and more cars!!! Sensory overload here, nice stuff!
A fitting back drop, yes?
One for "The Cat"!
HUH????
Acaidian Canso!!!!
Merely ONE of my favorites of the day, but oh so sweet '61 Falcon:
Awesome pics....it is so different in the States though...
Last night we were in Port Huron (Blue Water Cruise)with 5 Other cars and FRIENDS and we all noted how Americans really do things on a large scale...how laws are in comparrison so lax to us. How most police turn the blinde eye or let things go for the night...Im sure alot of that went on during the Power Tour.
You were really fortunate to experience such an awesome cruise in the states. Great scenery and cars.
Thanks for the pics...keep them coming!
That 62 Impala gasser with the hood ripping open is on kijiji...recognise car from ad and had same Powertour bus beside it in the photo.
Again, thanks Steve...
Day 4: After West Virginia, I wasn't really interested in camping out on the State Capital lawn, so I drove a bit and camped on the roadside at a rest area.
I saw some old iron at a dealer lot in some small town near the lower edge of Ohio.
No price on this one.
I took a little side detour from the itinerary route and stopped in at Jeg's in Columbus near the state fairgrounds. They didn't have the parts I wanted onsite, so I was directed to Jeg's headquarters where they had everything.
I enjoyed the showroom - lots to see there!
I arrived at Summit Motorsports Park a little later than I would have without my little detour, but still lots of time for pics!
Vic and Christi Edelbrock were generous enough to sign posters and hats for everyone that wanted them - who doesn't love autographed prints?!
I even brought out the camera on a stick for a bunch of shots
flipped the "Camera on a stick" upsidedown for a few low shots too!
The day wouldn't be complete without a swing past the Sta-bil trailer!!!

Day 5: Norwalk Ohio to Crown Point Indiana. This one's going to be short and sweet. You see, I ran out of battery power on both of the cameras, but not before clicking off a couple dozen shots. I guess a hotel will be in order after the show to remedy the power depletion delema. A shame too, as there were tons of cool rides parked on the scenic grounds of the Park at this stop.
As you can see in the background, there ARE lots of cars there, I just couldn't get them all - heartbreak!
This is the only other 1971 Ranchero Squire that I've EVER seen in person IN MY LIFE!!!! (other than the two I already have of course- rare!)
I dunno about "Best thread ever". A build thread will always trump an
event coverage thread I would think, but thanks for the Kudos! ...You too
Janice!!!
