Lets start a legit bi tchin posting for things that happened to your build .. ie shoddy services , wrong parts etc etc . that just made you say " REALLY ?????"
I,ll be first . dropped off my rear axles from my vintage patina gasser project , to get the rear axle studs up graded from 7/16 th,s to 1/2 x 20 x 3 inch arps .
Decided ya know what insteada doing it my self on my drill press . I,ll take them to a local fabricator guy and get them done on a mill , ... Ahhhh no crooked ones , no loose ones , none needing a lil tack or two on the back ..
dropped off the axles with 2 studs for reference . picked em up got home . I can karate chop the studs into the holes , right up to the register flange . LIKE REALLY ????. you have a ******* mill .
so now been back to Perf Improv , ordered two more packs of studs , with larger shank and will go some where,s else to get the holes drilled out . AGAIN . ..77.
Edit note , the studs are sposed to be 5 thou interference fit , they made the holes too big .

I,m as cool as Milner , but axeually a bit more like Beckwith
I put a brand new gas tank on my '51 Ford. Took it to the body shop and had some work done. As I was loading it back on the trailer, I noticed the new gas tank was pushed in from what looks like a floor jack, as if someone had jacked up the back end to move it around. I pointed it out to the owner of the shop. "Oh no, couldn't have happened here".
Oh really?
not really a "build" project but I tinker with it anyway
'01 f150 - I drive it everyday
the summer before last I went for a ride across the city
once out in the west end it starts to feel like a tire's going down so I pull into the next gas station to have a look
I walk arount to the pass front tire and the heat almost knocks me over
- hubcap's gone , it melted right off the wheel
3 buckets of water thrown on the tire evaporate instantly
yeah , this ain't going any further - I need it towed
sorting through my wallet on the hood , looking for my caa card , I had to scoop everything up and go around the other side
it was still to hot to stand beside the tire
so , after a long slow tow back to the ford dealer I get droped off at home by the tow truck driver
the next day the dealer says seized caliper , ok fine - just had the brakes done with new rotors the spring before
I get the truck back in two days and a nice beefie bill to boot
I drive the truck home and later I go out for a little ride to see how it drives
it's just starting to rain
I get a couple of miles down the road and pofft blah blah , my truck starts makeing a horriable noise - and loses all power
and it starts to rain harder than I think it's ever rained right then too
shhhh...t
I jump out , lift the hood and see the number 1 coil draped over the valve cover , hanging by it's wires
I pick it up and the spark plug drops outta the coil boot N goes plung pling plop through the engine compartment to the ground below
wtf ???
NOW , I learn these stupid motors have an issue with blowing out the plugs
I limp it home & call the dealer the next morning
... then I start to think hummm , that #1 plug IS the easiest one to get at .. I wonder , I wonder if some a-hole lossened it up while it was getting the front caliper & hub fixed
yeah , not the first time I've had an issue right after comeing outta that shop either
so , I limp it to a different dealer that's actually closer to home
3 hun to fix the plug thread , replace the now broken coil and for good measure , another 5 hun to change out the rest of the plugs
I haven't had my truck back to a certain ford dealer on kingston rd in scarborough since and I've had no other issue with it
it's ### well never going back there either
All I can say is if it's 5.4 Ford..you can prpbably expect that to happen again..That is a really common Ford 5.4 issue..I love it when one of them come in for a tune up..Mt first question is ,How long since you replaced the plugs.. That might be an 8 hr job.. You can be pretty sure your going to break at least 3 of them if it's been over a year..My recomendation is never leave them longer than a year...They can be a real time consumer replacing plugs in the 5.4 and the 4.6 although I have more issues with the 5.4..and clutch packs in the rear of those limited slip Ford Pick-ups, do one or two of them a month..Calipers pretty much every spring we do a ton of siezed calipers..usually always people who never do any maintenance ..Way to many people who think they never have change plugs or 02s, or ever service their calipers..actually amazing how many people do squat for maitenance..Great for me ..I run an auto repair shop.. and I gotta eat and pay my Hydro bill, get e-tests, pay the college of trades for my license so I am gratefull for the work Mr Ford..But Fords are not the only ones with lots of problems..don't matter if your driving a Honda, Dodge, Toyota, Volvo, or a Gm..they all got lots of issues..
5.4 2 valve
yeah , a compression washer and a few more threads in the hole might have been nice
'01 , my father bought it new but it's got 310 000 KM's on it now
runs & drives better than ever since I took it over - seems he had next to nothing done except coils , lots of stinkin coils , and brakes
the ball joints were so toasted I used to have to pull the wheel back to straight when driveing it
you don't need to get axles drilled unless you are completely incapable of holding a drill level, trust me some people are, or you are re drilling the axles for a different pattern, the holes that are there will guide the larger drill bit, ive hand drilled tons of axles. it takes confidence, of which I am not in short supply of.
had one of those wtf experiences with my 76 vette. i noticed the diff. cover was cracked in a couple of places. on those cars the cover is a key component of the rear suspension. my buddy had a brand new, in the box, cover from ecklers he bought 30 years before and never used. i get everything put back together and discover the spring won't mount up to the new cover. turns out ecklers had sent him a cover for a 78-79 and not the 65-77 !!!! just took 30 years to get screwed hahahaha.

rebuilding an early version of a dodge 2.2 turbo motor
just finishing up reinstalling the head , I was installing the vacume take off on the intake manifold
it's just a small plastic can with a couple of vac nipples on it and a threaded bit on the bottom to go into the manifold
sure , it's only plastic ..... BUT , just above the thread it gets wider as the threaded section merges with the body part of the can
hum de do , I've been tightening bolts all afternoon - didn't really feel the plastic thread getting to the wider part and plink - something pops
I look at the manifold and it's now split at either side of the vacume thingy
ran it in to far , the plastic was just strong enough to work like a wedge
and , yep I have to take the exhaust manifold off to get at the intake bolts ... and I have to pull the head I just put on to get the exhaust manifold & turbo off
oh really ... good thing I'm a turbo dodge freek 'cause I'm lucky enough to have another intake / exhaust & head gasket stashed in the house
but my day didn't really need to be quite that long ...
pic shows a diff build but same car / motor and plastic thingy in the middle of the manifold

Here's a question.... when did bird sh*t become so dense/destructive???
Noticed it heavily dispersed on my windshield this morning when my daughter and hubby jumped in my truck to take her to work, so I hosed it off windshield.
its all good.
Art jumped in my truck to go to store about an hour later and when he came home.......well actually about 2 hrs after he got home I guess he decided it was time to break the news to me.
Actually started the conversation with I have something to tell you and your not gonna like it lol.
Anyhow, long story short, my windshield is now cracked.
It wasn't this morning or last night . Don't remember taking a rock or anything in the past. I like the way it is both horizontal and diagonal.
And he say,s he didn't get hit with anything while he had it....... and I tend to believe him.....
Damn birds.

I think it might of been a eagle or an osprey was going to make lunch out of a large snapping turtle but it bite its toe and dropped it on your windscreen. Luckily poor unsuspecting Art wasn't hurt. but he was too shaken up to call someone that lies like a rug.

lol
I once ran over a piece of a turtle shell left on the road from a previous "hit and keep on driving" driver .
Completely blew out my tire on my van. I just happened to be way the hell out in the boonies..... like sound track from deliverance playing on front porch boonies, and wearing a sundress and nice shoes.
Those wheel nuts on my spare felt like they were welded on underneath that van. Fastest barefoot tire change I ever did.

Couldn't agree more Chuck.
Mine has the 5.4 and both those are known for spitting plugs. Very important to change them regularly to stave off bigger problems down the road.

a little auntie seize might help ?

no but welding up the spark plug holes , redrilling then and taping them so they take a plug with a square shoulder and a compression washer like a dodge would solve the blow out issue once and for all
ford uses a ####### champher on the plug that just wedges into a champhered hole
it does absolutely nothing to prevent the plug from rotating
even the twin cam 4 valve "cobra" heads are a joke
they used all of 4 thread turns to hold the plugs in
- then they updated them to 6 thread turns
then there was the 3 valve heads with the 2 piece plugs that break off when ya try to remove them
somethings just don't need reinventing - like the wheel ... or the blinking spark plug

It may be a stress crack to your windshield. That happened to me once.
I parked my car went inside a store for no more than 5 minutes, came back and there was a crack on my windshield just like yours. I know I didn't get a stone in the windshield and I didn't see anything around that would hit it. I took my car into the dealership as my car was varily new and the guy laughed at me and said "well it could be a stress crack but I doubt it, I have been doing this for over 15 years and have seen only two before." He said if it was it would be covered by the dealership as a defect. I went inside the dealership and let the guy do the test on the windshield, he came back and said "well, it looks like I've now seen three." He showed me how he was able to determine if it was a stress crack. He took a bic pen and traced the crack with the pen, he said if it sticks anywhere then there was trauma that caused the crack, if the pen didn't get stuck anywhere then it was a stress crack.
Might be worth a try with a pen and see if it sticks anywhere. If it is a stress crack it could save you from going through insurance.
hhmmmm, thanks for the info/tip, Makes sense I'll give it a try. I'm kinda thinking that that's what it is. I ran my nail down it and didn't catch/ no polish flaked off at all .....

sometimes the windshield can take a hit and not split right away
had that happen when tightening the dash top bolts on an omni dash
I raped it hard with the end of the ratchet handle , stoped , looked at the windshield to see if I cracked it , no , nothing
I get out to do some stuff on the bench & turn around like 5 min later and see there's now a crack .. right where I hit it
if your windshield and the water you used to rinse it off were to far apart in temp you may have shrunk the outer layer of glass
when it warmed back up it may have done so unevenly with the inner layer causeing the plastic in between to pull and crack the glass
I've also learned that if I leave a car with a glue on rearview mirror parked for a month or two faceing west , the mirror will usually fall off the windshield due to the heating & cooling cycles
- yeah , my driveway runs east / west....
