I have a 03 PT for sale. I has the turbo motor and when its working it really goes .Thats the problem ,I am tired of working on something that takes major disassembly to change an alternator. Now it just quit and rolls over and tries to start but just won't quite get there. I think the timing belt is gone and I don't want to spend the rest of my life fixing it so it needs to go. I have no idea what its worth so I will start at $1200 and see how bad the flak gets. The body of the car/van is in really good shape and the interior is like new . Everything on it works fine and i was driving it till this happened. These are the codes its throwing P0300,P0302,P0517,P0522,P00344.Don't know why the oil code is on as it was/is showing proper levels.I really liked this car but it has really been a pain.Even Fatstax won't look at it any more and I offered to pay him. Buy it so I can get the Jimmy I just bought on the road. Ed

That po344 code is a cam sensor and that will cause a no start...Check all the wiring and the pig-tail at the sensor but more than likely you will need to replace it ..it's cheap and an easy fix for a no start..
P0344 Chrysler Description
The Camshaft Position Sensor is an electronic device used in an engine to record the rate at which the camshaft is spinning. This information is used by the Engine Control Module(ECM) to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor senses the retraction of camshaft (intake) to identify a particular cylinder. The camshaft position sensor senses the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, typically a disc, as well as a static part, the actual sensor.
When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor to change. The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change. The change in the magnetic field cause the voltage from the sensor to change.
When the crankshaft position sensor (POS) system becomes inoperative, the camshaft position sensor provides various controls of engine parts instead, utilizing timing of cylinder identification signals.
The 300 and 302 is just misfire codes that could be set from the cam sensor..the 517 is a battery temp sensor and the 522 is an oil pressure switch ..you could have a wiring harness issue to set all these codes or they could have been set form trying to start it...I would make a visual inspection of the harness and if you don't find a chaffed harness anywhere or the green death at any wire terminations ..I would throw a cam sensor at it..
Thankyou Chuk, it is very helpful. I have tried two camsensors,a good one and a cheep one .Cheep one didn't make much difference, was still bucking under acceleration. The better one is in there now and still wont start. I will take your advice and check the harness .With any luck it will be that simple. Thanks again for your help. Ed
Ed..You really need to get the Chrysler one..I have not had good luck with any aftermarket sensors....If checking for a good connection at the plug and a Chrysler sensor does not start it let me know and I will stick with you to see if we can get it sorted out..Do you have a scanner or code reader than displays eng rpm..
Hey Ed a little more info for you..This infor mationn comes from running some history on previous problems on that vehicle using my shop program..for the same codes..
fixed it with a New OEM Cam sensor.. when i bolted this one it synced 1.5 degrees.. and it bolted flat to the surface unlike the 2 new Borg Warner sensors... had to learn the hard way.. stay away from Borg Warner parts!!!!!
I have worked on a alot of PT'S both at dodge dealer and indepedent shops. I have learned the hard way with cam/crank codes on any crys./mitsu. car to replace cam and crank sensors with new pig tails period! From dealer!! They are about same price or cheaper than aftermarket. They have them in stock. Seen several with collapsed pins making poor/int. connection. About 30% of time, if they have cam code its the crank sensor, I always replace both sensors and the pig tails..cheap and available from the dealer..if you have a problem to source them let me know maybe I can get them and mail them to you..
After market brand new cam position sensor out of the box was no good, I noticed that after the 15 minute road test, and the code setting, when checking voltage at the cmp connector, orange 5 volt reff, and black/blue pcm ground, I had 5 volts. Once the code would set and the vehicle would act up, as soon as you cleared the code, and reved gas pedal 2 times the code would set right away, so I rapidly chilled the cmp sensor, and the code would not reset until I drove the vehicle another 10 minutes or so. Ordered another cmp sensor, installed it, warmed it up with a hair dryer and engine running, had a helper drive the car for 1 hour, problem fixed. Please use OEM SENSORS..and pig tails and you will good to go and all the other codes will go away too..just pull both battery cables and connect them to-gether for 15 min and then reinstall them..with the new sensors and I would recommend both cam and crank sensor and pig tails. for a sure fix..
Thanks for all the help after rechecking everything we replaced the cam sensor with an oem sensor and so far so good no problems yet
Thanks Chuk I will go to the local Cryco dealer and get a proper one .Is the pigtail they are talking about actually the plug that attaches to the sensor. I will try this repair this week and let you know what happens. Thanks again . Ed
