I was in to Mississauga on Tuesday night and bought a very interesting late forties early fifties ( guessing) midget race car. I am assuming it was a Toronto local car , anyone who watched races anywhere back in the old days recall seeing this little gem anywhere? Suspended on the left rear wheel with a half leaf spring , transverse spring with a drilled dropped I beam up from, cross steer, all the chassis has been drilled , aluminum body all riveted, quite a piece actually, looks to me that it had been cycle powered, sadly this is missing... Any leads on the original owner or who raced it would be greatly appreciated guys.
Rusty Rutherford , who was a big snap on dealer here in the barrie area is a big big fan of midget cars , and a collector , and I believe he has a lot of histories of different drivers and cars an tracks an stuff .
you could probably google him or face book ..77.

Nice find Chris. To me it looks like a quarter midget that ran in the late 50's. They competed for the Continental Trophy under the banner of "The Canadian Quarter Midget Racing Association" at a track located at Hamilton's Scott Park. An old friend John Keeler's 12 year old son Steve was a hot shoe in the series. I have a photo of his car from a newspaper article from September 1959 and although it's not the same car, the family still own that one I think, it is certainly similar in size and appearance. Hope this helps, you might try contacting Dave Boone who writes for Old Autos as he has a lot of racing history contacts.
Good luck.
Hard to tell just sitting there but it looks like a 1/2 midget , 1/4s would only fit kids, had one. Power it the same as Dans bush buggy should be a blast .
Thanks fellas, yes, never thought of David Boone, good idea.. Slim, can't do that man, it will be properly restored if I have any say, it's not a kids go kart,it's a race car with some heritage to it..
