Thanks Chuk

I was there the day the track opened, so I just have to go back 50 years later.

John,
there's a bunch of the ELTA folk going up to support other brothers who are racing. Mike makes his debut in The 33 Willys "Gone Bananas". The Hiesler boys are there now with their front engine rail and 41 Willys coupe. Scott Haviland is bringing up "Charlie Horse" and his Dad Charlie Haviland. No doubt it will be a great couple of days.

Me and the family are heading down tomorrow in our new summer toy hauler. I don't think I'll make a pass in it though, I'll leave that to Mike and the boys. Although I am kinda curious what it will run.....

Wow another 50th year, i believe St Thomas just had they;re 50th.
A lot of super fast cars have gone down that track over the years, i still remember one of my favourites there, The "Seaport Automotive " corvette, driven by Louie Rivaite. (spelling?)
Another great bunch of guys who have ran there hundreds of times over the past decades, "The Hishon Bros" from Stratford. (They;e still at it, with the whole family involved.)

Drag racing in South Western Ontario during the 60's was just the best of times with Grand Bend, St Thomas and Windsor Raceway. Personally, I have a ton of memories from these tracks with our Anglia and my Roadster. I will have my Roadster there tomorrow - the same car I raced there 50 years ago. We will be spectators tomorrow.
Friendships made during that time are treasured today. Charlie Haviland was one of the best. Will be great to see him tomorrow. Yes, there sure has been a number of fast cars go down these tracks.
Tomorrow will be a great show and a great time to bench race -- "the older I get, the faster we went"
See you at the track.

Hey brother...I just got back a little while  ago..... had a great day with a great bunch of lads....lol.....all the ELTA cars that were racing just got faster with every pass. Our own Mike Roi (VP of Speed) went from a 12:50 index to a high 10 pass......and this was his first time out with the Willys this year. I know a bunch of the guys stayed over tonight but I could only get away for Sat. See you soon down at the shop..... or Aug 9.....lol.

It was a great day, got to talk to some of the ELTA brothers and met a few new people.  I took a pile of pics and shot some video as well.  I'll post them up when I get them all sorted.  I thought I'd through this one up as a teaser; the ELTA gang in all their glory.  If you look quick you may think you're back in the '60s with the club at the track.

Great seeing you and the family up at the track brother...looking forward to seeing more pictures for sure.....the guy in the ball cap standing in front of the Disciples is Johnny Z and that's his lovely better half Carol they have just made Canada their new home from Scotland....really nice folks that brought a 40' container full of cars and drag racing equipment over from the homeland . Look for his 9 sec Anglia on the track in the very near future or at the ELTA Bash. Thanks again Grumper............ "Viva la Rodders Atlas"

I guess it must have been about 46 yrs ago that I was there ( 67 & 68 ) . I had the pleasure of providing Rick Proctor an old slide of his Pack-Rat when it was running at that time , and long before he owned it . The photo was not great , but it got the job done . I personally liked the beautiful brown 55 Chev sedan delivery ( Parklane Motors ) I think it ran a 265 - Glide . GREAT times -- LATER -- DON - fleet 51

fleet 51...The 55 Chev sedan delivery [Tuff E Nuff] sponsored by Park Lane Motors Sarnia ran a 265 with a hydro and was owned, built and driven by a friend of mine Bob Burch. If you have a picture of it please post. Thanks.

I only remember Bob Burch's sedan delivery as in black primer.?
I remember he had a good reputation for setting up the WCFB carbs.

My memory must be kind of funny. I remember racing at Grand Bend in 1961 and 1962 with my Super Stock 61 chev, all the Sarnia guys raced there, Gladwish, Burch and more.
I guess they changed the name or something to make the opening date 1964.
I raced there with my Fairlane in 1964 and helped with the 427 Ford Hi Riser of Piggot Ford along with John (Igor) Phillips. Then in 65 we had the Don Havers 289 powered B/FX Falcon.

Burch had the wagon in black primer for a long time but finally painted it Cordivan [spl] Brown. Yep he was Mr. WCFB. Bill Jenkins gave Bob praise in a early 70's Car Craft article.

Burch was good on all carbs, he did the 3 rochester 2GC's on my 348 and wow, what a difference, nearly 1/2 a second in the 1/4
