Posi-Taps

Many of you may have used these before but I had never heard of them.  Posi-Taps (Posi-Lock brand but the Posi-Taps are the "teeing in" version) used to splice into wiring.  They are freakin amazing.  More for relays and trigger wires rather than primary circuits but never the less amazing.  Sorry for the crappy pictures but they are worth a thousand words.

I usually solder all of my connections but in some cases I do not want to get that invasive.  Case in point, the running board mod on my truck.   I like to keep my primary vehicles stock for ease of trouble shooting and maintenance.  So hacking into a factory wiring harness is not high on my list of good things to do.  Using the old butt style "clip over" thingies are hit and miss at best.  So I was looking for something new.   Along came the Posi-Taps from a google search.

The advantage with the Posi-Taps over anything else I have used is the ease of removal and condition of the wiring after.  Very small piercing to the sheathing that is easily sealed with a dab of silicone.  They are reusable and strong as "h e double hockey sticks".  The "as left" wire condition and reusable quality were key for me with this installation.  I bought a nearly new set of Bestop power boards on Kijiji (great deal, a third the price of new) for a different model truck.  Minor modifications but the wiring was going to be a bit tricky with matching the required trigger wires to the controller module.  So trial and error were going to be the only way of attacking it.  I did this and with the Posi-Taps I was able to keep the full integrity of my wiring harness.

The old running boards.  I have never really liked this factory set up.

They look like a great idea. I'll have to keep them in mind, if there is ever a need for them.

I just bought mine on Ebay.  I live right on the US border so it is quick and easy for me but there must be a Canadian distributor.  Regards, Rhys.
