Awesome car! My buddy just ordered his, and before you all call BS....I saw the receipt! No word on when it will come in though, he's trading in his SRT8....unless someone wants it before the dealer ups the price on it(he's asking $41,000 with only 9000 KMs, silver w/black stripes, 6 speed too!)

Yep. And both those examples would be the base price, but there isn't that many upgrades availble. Special seat stitching, navigation system, coloured wheels(other than the standard black), blacked out hood, etc.

Bang for buck it's best car out there. Just like in the late 80s and 90s a 5litre Mustang was best bang for buck out there IMO.
I am very impressed with the Hellcat numbers. It's a sexy looking car.
I love Jays commentary of arguing why never to turn down the 707hp option to valet!
Can't wait to see this at the track.

Totally.
I can't wait to see what the other manufacturers come up with. :)
Its also a very very nice looking car, you are right there.
707hpand 650lb/ft of torque with a 4400lb weight. Thats 400 lbs more than my 1/2 ton pickup. The Dodge has 3 times the power though.lol
I'm surprised that it only costs CAN$64,000, esp. considering a US$59,900.
Looks like Dodge has their 8 speed transmission sorted out quite well. It seems to shift nicely when Leno did his burnout. I can see the manual transmission version being markedly slower, unless full slicks are used.
The iron block was initially surprising, but after some thought, it makes sense as it would be much stronger than an aluminum block and then there's the development costs. The 638hp 6.2 GEN 4 smallblock Chev used an aluminum block, but it was specific to the LS9 with all of its specific maching operations.
It's nice to see that the "power wars" are in full force.
Just a note and food for thought. Aluminum is 1/3 STRONGER then steel at the same weight. I have had a couple of the early 5.7s and the blocks would benefit from a diet. As for the car carrying this motor,4400 lbs is also very heavy. I wish they would put these killer motors in a 3000 lb car. My choice would be a two wheel drive, dropped front axle, tubbed real wheel, two door Jeep. Now that would be a street rod! Already comes with a rollbar. don
In fact I must fess up. A few years ago I built this.(5.7 Hemi) Not a street rod but the basic idea was there. If I was younger and richer I would build street version with a real YJ or something and a new gen Hemi. A hellcat version would require pilots license almost. I am weary of heavy cars. No need for it. Every 100 lbs lost is a car length in the 1/4 approx.

I'm interested to see how it stacks up to the GT500 on a road course. Is it a drag car or a sports car?
I'm thinking it's a little portly to be a true sports car - it might handle pretty well as is, but you can bet there will be some drastic weight reductions for the serious road racers.

Long ago when I went to Florida at Christmas and march break we were driving by Chatanooga right at the Georgia border. There was a sign I had seen for year that said Optimist Club Drag Strip , racing every Friday night. It was Friday and from traffic around us it was obvious folks were heading to the track. I suggest we stop, shot down in flames, but I persisted, agreeing we would only be off the road for an hour. It is a beautiful little 1/8mile track in a hidden valley. I was leaning against the fence watching and this ol hillbilly looking guy walked up and started talking. I could barely understand his back in the hills Tennessee accent but managed to. "Did-ya see Buba Woo yet?" he asked. "No" I said , wondering why he was asking me. "What does he drive?" I asked. "One of them there French cars," he replied. "A Renault?" I asked. "Hell no," he replied in disgust, "One of them there Chevrolets." don

Fordy: Just for the entertainment value, could you please inform us on what size brake lines this baby wears.
I know,...I know...it's getting old....
But my money says, they're much larger then 3/16".
I'm guessing, 1/4" at the front of the master (6.35mm for you Slim), and 5/16" at the rear of master cylinder (or 7.937mm).
If not larger, considering the performance package.
I like to inform myself with performance IMPROVEMENTS, so I can claim "I know it all".
PS: I know there's been millions of miles put on 3/16" brake lines, but the same could be said for drum brakes and Bias Ply tires.
Nothing wrong with that, they work OK.
Jus' Sayin!
That is a really nice machine for the money. Who would've thought FIAT would go that route.
I tell you what, since you don't seem to want to let it go for some reason, when my buddy's Hellcat comes in, I'll measure the O.D. for ya. I honestly hope they're 3/16" so we can put this subject to bed already! Geeez!

Apparently someone never learned Pascal's Law of Fluid Dynamics, which is part of Brakes 101. don
The point I'm trying to get across has absolutely nothing to do with "pressure".
It's about flow velocity...the larger the dia. the more volume it will flow under the same amount of pressure and time.
This is being used more and more on ABS/traction control systems, most commonly seen on performance and high end vehicles.
These ABS/traction control systems have solenoids that can pulse to milliseconds, and the smaller line diameters are restrictive to the flow.
PS: I know for a fact the Hemi Challengers, Chrysler 300C as well as the Hemi Charger have 1/4" dia. and 5/16" lines from the master cylinder. I really don't think they'd go smaller on the Hell Cat.
I might find out first hand tomorrow or this weekend, Chrysler Canada always puts up a great display at Moparfest, and I'll be there helping to set it up.
