I am surprised this hasn't been mentioned. Anyway at the far end of my village already things are ramped up for the big Ameliasburgh Meet. Usually huge and camping as well. I imagine all the spots are gone. I usually go up Fri or Sat looking for old friends and cool cars. I believe it is 40 years now for this show. It first started at Salmon Point but moved here shortly after. The Pr ED Auto Club own much of the land and it is well attended. Since I live just up the road I only visit leaving the good spots for those who must travel. I will see if I can get some decent pics this year. don

It is a good mix. Street rods ,muscle cars and a few race cars even. Its a pretty good do. Lots of activities, lots of shade and on a lake with swimming access. There was a book recently published about it especially the early days. The Club owns about 8 acres with lots of trees. They have a fairly decent sized clubhouse on it . There is usually a chicken BBQ one night. It has gone though a few changes but they have been for the better. I was at the first one and usually go at least Sat Afternoon to have a look around and shot the breeze. There are a lot of cars on display. If you don't have a car on display you can't camp there I believe. Because sometimes friends come and borrow my rail if they didn't get  theirs done in time or are between cars.

I was up there today even though it doesn't start till tomorrow. A lot of cars and campers already in. I also went down to Picton cruise tonight. Several from Ameliasburgh show were also there. There were in Picton also several French speaking folks walking through the cruise in. I noticed some last week as well. It has been a long time since I spoke French (lived in Quebec for part of my teenage years) but I dusted it off and gave it my best shot. What can it hurt? I grew up in Picton and there used to be none. Must be the wineries that are bringing them in but they seemed to be car smart folks as well. It was pretty rusty speaking but I got by and no one asked for a repeat. My wife wanted to know how I knew to speak French. I don't know why but I just know. In my misspent youth my Dad moved us to Montreal area when he took engineering job there. When I was turfed out of hi school I worked in the garage business there for a few years so picked it up that way. It would come back in an hour or so of solid exposure but just the occasional pop at it is difficult. I began my drag racing career at Les Cedres or Cedars Drag Strip east of Cornwall and west of Montreal in July of 1966. There announcing and all was bi lingual so a lot I picked up just being around it. It is kind of fun to dig it out in the car related hobby but I never expected to be speaking it in Picton at a cruise night trying to explain the difference between a 426 Wedge and a 426 hemi! Still car guys are car guys the world over.

Anyway enough of that. They said tonight that there are already 200 car in Ameliasburgh and it doesn't even start till tomorrow.

i can't this yr. family re-union in peterborough and it is kinda of a must do. gonna miss the norm carr flat track races at the fair grounds sat night also. its the second week ? of the construction holiday in quebec i think. pretty much the whole province shuts down for 2 weeks. if you got down there for a couple of days it, the french, would come back. i lived in dorion and drove out of ville la salle for monsanto into the states for a stint. it comes back.

Ah I was in Dorion the night of the train bus crash and was conscripted to help search for victims by the police. 34 dead I think if I am right and they never found the bus driver. It was 1966 or 1967. At the time I lived in Dollard just below Fairview Mall. Yes it is the same with my German. Once I am immersed in it for an hour or so I actually think in it. It is for me much easier then French which is hard work. Must be something to do mit mein blut! ;>)

Ameliasburgh is going well. There has been a steady stream of visitors here. (I live at the east end of the village so most drive by on their way there.) I could have bought 63 Dodge stepside, a 56 Fargo or a 48 Dodge truck today if I had been a bit younger and had some spare cash. None were over priced. One fellow just stopped by to give me a couple of magazines he bought for me a Carlisle. Everyone seemed to be behaving. Weather is good but it is hot. Sounds like it is going well. I did my walk around the other day.

Anyone have some more pics of this event to post. I've been wanting to attend, visit for the last three/four years. I've heard a lot of good about it, and no bad.
It would be nice to see what it's all about. I have a friend that has been going since day one, but he's not great at taking pics.
He was saying, they put a small book/journal out, commemorating this years anniversary.

They're coming here (my friends) to spend next weekend, they contributed pictures etc... for the book. I hope they took pics of this year.

We used to go every year way back when with our club The Cruissin Classics in the late 70s or early 80s ,can't remember the dates but the rod runs back then were awsome . It was a fave weekend camping, Sat and Sunday breakfast, Saturday movies for the kids and some driving events and other club games and a Sunday dance for the adults at least they were adults at the start of the dance.  All that for about $25to$30.   Ed

I think one of the things that makes it great is the camping. If you have a hotrod or classic you can camp for so much per day, ($5 or $10, I don't remember) If you don't have a display car out you go. That keeps all the places for car people instead of "cheap" campers. Sure sometimes they fudge it a bit by borrowing someones car to show but at least every spot has a car on display. They also have an In for the Day deal which I actually have won somehow. And Sunday Runners (Got one of them too) It is a family type atmosphere. It got a bit wild about 10 years ago but they got on it a put an end to the foolishness. Lots of washroom facilities. Albeit port a potties. There is a clean lake nearby so a swim is just a 3 minute walk away. Lots of shade as when the Pr Ed Club made the park they left a lot of the cedar trees for shade. They also have a good sized club house. The Ameliasburgh Pioneer Museum is on the ajoining property and it has a building with a 500HP Goldie Corliss steam engine. As well there are lots of interesting displays of a mechanical nature along with the normal pioneer stuff. Across the road is the Ameliasburgh public Library with an outside WIFI spot. There is also parking at both ends of the facility for visitors to park and walk through and see the cars and activities. This year they also rented and used the ball diamond and fair boards bandstand for some activities.
