wondering how the Barrie flea market was this year? After going almost every year since it was at molson park and having 8 booths yearly , our gang decided it was getting too expensive and less and less car related. More socks and t shirts and just plain junk than car stuff!!! anyone have another flea market they could recommend?

Not until spring but Stirling is a bit of home but well worth the trip... We have been vending there since the beginning of time, also had at one time a dozen or better sites with Greedy Don iN Barrie, never was the same after it moved out of Molsons
Park...

First weekend of Dec. is the Motor City Car Club flea market at the International Centre to end off the flea markets for the year. They are new at flea markets taking over from HASC and learning. Ancaster is also a very good day event as Keeper stated.
AACA Lindsay flea market May 2 & 3 2015 for their 44 year will start the new year www.aacaontario.ca/antique-automotive-flea-market.html I am told Lindsay only has 6 indoor and not many outdoors vending spots left of 610 total. Only their 3rd year at the new location and still the largest and oldest automotive flea market east of Toronto. This one is not like Barrie they will ask if you are selling automotive when applying for a site and you will be turned away if you say no. I vended at Barrie starting 1978 at Molson Park on the annex and left when AACA Lindsay started and have not looked back.
Look in the Old Autos events section in the back for what is in your are.

I was talking to my brother and his son yesterday about Barrie. Same concensus. Best is probably Carlisle. 8 hour drive but last time I was there a day wouldn't do it and I don't waste a lot of time if I am alone. Stirling I always enjoy. I don't always buy car stuff there although that is my main reason for going. I used to have a table there when I started selling my Old Reliable book.
Have bought an early 1900s diatonic button accordion there on bet. Guy said if I could play it I could have it for around $35 but since I wouldn't be able to he wanted a lot more. When I asked why he said I wouldn't be able to play it he told me his daughter had a Masters in Music from McMaster U and she couldn't play it so there would be no way I could. As luck would have it for some reason I just happened to have $35 in my shirt pocket folded up. Why he picked that number I don't know but anyway he was mocking me loud enough a crowd had started to gather. What he didn't know was I had a similar but older one at home. I picked it up a bit nervous because they are hard to play. For a second I thought I was going to muff it but found my rhythm and gave him a rousing rendition of Ol Suzana. Sietsma was there with me at the time and commented later how the guys face went from suntanned brown to beet red when I played. I reached in my pocket and gave him the $35 while a few applauded. Mike still talks about it. It was probably worth more like $350 or even more but he had shot his mouth off in front of a crowd and I didn't give him a chance to whimp out. He was pretty upset though. Mike and I have gone for years on the Saturday. That is just one of several great adventures we have had there. I often pickup Hi perf carbs there for a decent price as well.

Great story Don and would loved to have seen his face you handing him $35. but the best is Hershey. At 9,000 vending spots 1,400 cars being judged on the show field it is not a place for new shoes. My motel is booked leaving on the Tuesday. Some year I would like to do both if I could handle all the walking of the two events being back to back

I'd have to say, if you're coming from Timmins, most of the swap meets are either 1 1/2 hr South, and then East or West of Barrie.
Lindsay and Stirling have weekend/camping swaps.
I went to Barrie for the first time in 15 or so years, this past weekend, and it was a lot better then I expected it to be.

Here it is for those interested. It was made in Regensburg Germany about 1910. The other one I have is about 1889 and is similar but smaller (and in mint condition) The Accordion guru out of Holland gave me the details. You never know what you will find at a flea market , automotive or otherwise. stirling treasure1.jpg

I did Barrie this fall, vending there for the first time in fact. Quite happy with my results. Just about sold out (only brought one car of four I took down back home again) and also found a few goodies to buy, this along with good tunes and great people all weekend I was pleased.

The funny thing is that everyone that complains about the antiques and other junk that is at Barrie is what makes it interesting for me and usually means my wife likes to tour the event as well (I guess some guys say that's a bad thing but I enjoy it!).

I was in Regensburg Germany in July and might have walked by the place your accordion was made. In early August I was in Prince Edward County and may have walked by your place. TRUTH IS STRANGER THAN FICTION111

I have not been to Barrie for a couple of years now but have you ever been to Dons Sunday morning vender meeting. He would go on about the vender from Whitby on how he helped him get the Molson Park stage of the flea market going. I hear now the family left Barrie last year for the last time vacating the 10 vending spots where they had like a small car lot of collector cars  and a few dozen southern fender for sale. Why would one of his biggest supporters pulls out? I talked to one of them at Lindsay where he had a few cars for sale inside and out. Said he was coming back in 2015 so I guess he is also one that made the switch from Barrie to AACA Lindsay.

My favorite is the Buffalo Rods and Customs Swap meet in May, No crap, just a bunch of real car guys with stuff in the back of their trucks. Used to be at the Rose Garden Restaurant, but now at Sanborn museum, just a few minutes from Niagara Falls NY. Great swap meet, going on 31 years. Rod parts and drag stuff, and always bargain prices. My buddy picked up a 9" rear for $50 I got a pair of 2-5/8 Stewart Warner gauges with sending units for $20.....................can't go wrong.

They were not at the Spring meet I was told as they just finished up restoring a high dollar early Cadillac touring car and they figured there would be more interested buyers at Steve Plunkett's show than at Barrie and are supposed to be back next spring but time will tell.

I also have been vending at Barrie, both Spring and Fall since it was at Molson Park and have heard lots of complaints from guys talking about the shoe and sock vendors but SOMEBODY must be buying this stuff or these guys wouldn't be back the next time. I just walk by them to the next vendor. Don has done an excellent job with the facility over the years and spent a large dollar doing it and has made a good dollar running the show. Been there when it rained and now no mud anywhere. Not many meets can boast that fact.

Also, I enjoy the commadre a lot there and as long as I sell enough to cover the spot I am happy. Anything else is a bonus but hear different guys saying that if they don't sell at least $3000. it's not worth their time.  It's different for every body but I happen to really enjoy the show. We take the camping trailer and the wife really enjoys the meet. Guaranteed she will find something we can use, she always has...............

Ich bin oft in Deutschland. I was also there in July and on the Doneau but not quite to Regenburg although I have been there at the old grain market. I remember I went into a music shop there and there were several high end guitars on display all with Canadian flags as they were all Canadian made. Anytime you are walking by stop in and introduce yourself.

And No. The accordion is not for sale.

What year? What are you looking for? My brother in law is working on a RD350 (2 stroke), I've helped him find parts, he has some he won't be using, and I still have some contact info from where he bought from.

I was taking to them and they rebooked for Lindsay for coming May and I took it they were not going back to Barrie. He had that Caddie at Steve's show last year with 3 other cars. All winning a ribbons I believe. He is taking the electric car this year as you can not take the same car for 4 years. He has several high end cars and the 11 Cadillac is not one of them. Price the Pierces,  Packard, or the big Stanley if you want to see high prices. Nice cars to own and drive but I will have to keep dreaming or my next life.

As for Barrie Don has done a wonderful job with the park and has spent a fortune doing it. He deserves a pat on the back for his accomplishment's and all the other events that help carry the park. Don is a business man not a car guy and there to make a profit. That is why he moved Bills Truck Shop spot run by Newfie selling automotive stuff from the front to the very back to make room for the large tent selling clothing the last year I was there. I think you will see the cost of vending or admission keep going up to turn the same profits to cover the costs including inflation. The Orange field is gone and he has downsized other fields to accommodate other venues. Then you add in all the vacancies through out the remaining fields adds up to a lot of lost revenue. The money has to come from somewhere to cover the costs like paying for parking. Don is like any other person on the street or myself and does not want a pay cut. Don turned a farm into a camping and entertainment park something to be proud of.

But now Hainey has competition in the surround area's & they are much more reasonable to get a vending spot!!!  Also prices at these "other" markets are lower, & not having to sell your 1st.born to pay for the spot, at the "sock & underwear" event, therefore  vendors are not trying to get their spot paid for on the 1st or 2nd sale & will "haggle" somewhat just like the "old days" Done with Barrie, will go to the other ones that have "AUTOMOTIVE PARTS!!!!

Pete I here Clarks also pulled out of Barrie. He must have been one of Barrie's largest venders not including the sock venders. I seen he had a spot at Lindsay with display of a double gas pump and light post with all the accessories sitting on the concrete island on his big trailer. Must have weighed a few tons.
