I happen to like Milners Coupe , the style of it , the fact that he drives the wheels offa it , gets hassled by the local po po in it . I,ve had two cars the same corvette yellow colour
Now I know its a movie car , but thru my hot rodding career , I,ve heard so many guys rant about Milner coupe , and people that builds clones of it . I axeually just today had to avoid a conversation with an older rodder who I respect cause he,s been doing it since harveys at jane an finch . That's alotta street creds right there .
Cause he started to rag on the coupe .
Why is there such a stigma about it , an why can,t guys just say Wow , that's a cool car . My last hot rod project is gonna be a milners style coupe , but a bit more gasser stance , bigger tires , and an honest over 600 horse power and either weld drag lites or center line pro stars ..77.

I,m as cool as Milner , but axeually a bit more like Beckwith
I have read a couple of articles on it...Apparently it was a real pile of junk when used in the movie, barely ran half the time. They had to back off the 55 Chevy so it would at least keep up. It is a cool looking car though.
Well the 55' was in real life a very fast car, so it doesn't surprise me that they had to slow it down for the coupe to keep up.
In Two Lane Blacktop trim, the "beauty car" was a mid 10 second car. That is pretty much as fast as the Pro Stocks were at the time. It was based on Richard Ruth's street raced 56' and was apparently the only car with the tunnel rammed 427/M22 and was used for exterior and driving shots, while the other camera car ran a single four barrel 454 with fake carbs mounted to the firewall so it looked like it had a tunnel ram. The camera car was used for interior scenes mostly. There was also a rollover car for the original ending, but when nobody could roll it over (its was supposed to be when they go off the road into the field) they simply rewrote the ending. The rollover car had a full nascar style rollcage and apparently was circle track raced after TLB and no longer exists. The car crashed at the end of AG was a junker pulled from a wrecking yard.
Two of the three cars still exist, with only the original rollover car gone. The "beauty car" was reused in AG with some mods to make period correct. It still exists in sorta in its American Graffiti look. It has been extensively modified since then, but it still black with chrome reversed rims.
The camera car was restored to its original Two Lane Blacktop configuration and still has all the camera mounts welded to the frame. The original builder Richard Ruth was involved in getting it back together.
I think the stigma lies with the over exposure of that car… i mean in a commercial way.. you can buy every do-dad and goo-gah around that car,…tin signs, cheesy poster art,Tiny models, etc, etc. And the fact is too..so many Yellow Graffiti coupes have been built….and most of them are model A's!!!
I like the car with exception of the too short chopped grill.(just way out of proportion for my taste)But i do Like the car.and the movie will always be a favourite of mine.I have never completely seen Two Lane Blacktop….. Tried watching 4 times.I fall asleep cause it's so damn boring.ha ha ha
The American Graffiti film is a great film..sad.. but a great film.
I say build one… but with a 283 or 327 and a man-a-fre intake and a 4 speed.
Wanna see a great car movie.watch "Hotrod" or the other name it was given"Rebel of the Road" Muntz Rootbeer Sucks!
Had a finger in the stunt car Charger engine for Fast and Furious. Re Marty Algrihm of California. Tried to watch the movie but couldn't. Too rough for me and not to my taste. I remember Two Lane Blacktop. American Graffiti I have in German or Deutsch if you will. It seems a very different movie in another language. IE "Ricki, Was machst du jetz. Du bist ganz schlecht!" It was given to me by a friend in Hanau De. I met while searching for my original family(successfully.) He gave it to me to help me with the language learning so I could speak to them when I met them. My all time favourite movie is World's Fastest Indian and I watch it at least once a year when I need inspiration.(Which come to think of it, is right now while I struggle to recover from my injury.) don
