Got a call yesterday, and have a opportunity to buy back one of my old cars. It's a '58 Pontiac 2door wagon. Powered by a 261 cuin six with a 3 in the tree. When I owned it, it was all original, in real nice shape with about 60k miles. Bought the car in Vancouver in 1987. We used it to tow our son's Mustang back to Ontario. Had it for a while, and sold it. Didn't realize at that time how rare they are. I haven't seen one before, or since. Wondering if someone can direct me in finding out how many of these were built. It is a Canadian built unit.

In 72 I bought a 64 Dodge wagon, removed the six (sorry) and installed a done 383 (mentioned once in Pop Hot Rodding) I have a real affinity for wagons and wonder why I ever sold it. We were fixing up old houses at the time and it was real handy but was just as quick as a sedan would be as the weight difference is minor. Later in life I bought a 66 Dodge Cornet wagon and when the Poly died swapped in a 360. I lent it to a friend for the weekend and he wouldn't return it but wanted to buy it and kept upping the offer to $1200. Since I had payed $125 for it and $150 for the 360 and had enjoyed it for two tears I was powerless to resist such an offer. Now I wish I had. I am sure you feel that way about this one. Hope you get it back. Two door wagons were the ultimate of cool. Never had one of them. don Just remembered I also had a 70 Dodge wagon as a shop vehicle at Power Tune UP and I had a 72 Plymouth wagon as well I bought from PX , Bob Kenny, in Trenton. My last wagon was a 76 Dodge Aspen wagon (6 cyl)I had repainted bought rubber for it intending to make a "371 Hoover" powered "street cleaner" but a young neighbour in a jam needed a wagon for his growing family so I sold (practically gave) it to him. I wonder what the chances are of finding a decent 60s mopar wagon. (no rust) without breaking the "piggy" bank?
Bob W had a real cool wagon too. Perhaps two if memory serves me. Maybe we will get some of his pics. Wagons Ho!

A friend has a '58 Pontiac sedan delivery. From what I understand the tail lights are very rare.
To tell the difference between CDN and USA Pontiacs in '55 and '56, maybe '57, when looking at them, the front fender wheel opening on CDN cars are flat on the top. USA are rounder. The reason I heard, many years ago, was that the Chev motor used in the CDN cars was a lot lighter than the real Pontiac motor. And the front of the car sat a bit higher. So they filled in the gap.
Any truth to that story?

Canadian Pontiac's were built on Chevrolet frames and the body dimensions were a little different. The US Pontiac's had a longer wheel base among other things.
I had a 55 wagon once apon a time.

If memory serves me right, and at my age that's a stretch, the Canadian Pontiac used a Chev frame and the U.S. Pontiac used an Olds frame . I seem to remember a friend whos dad had a wreckers told me that when I was looking for an open driveshaft rear end for my 51 Chev.
51 Styleline, you are right about the Canadian Pontiac on a Chev frame, and Murican on a Olds frame.
Don, yes I love the 2 door wagons. I have a 56 Ford Parklane in my shop now, that my son & I were building into a REAL driver. For the ones that don't know, the Parklane was a one year only wagon that competed with the Chev Nomad. It doesn't have the hardtop style doors, but has lots of chrome/stainless. The interior is identical to the Crown Vic. Car is a Texas car in real; nice shape, and 100% complete. Anyway, Jason was killed by a drunk driver 6 years ago, and I just can't get back into it, so will be selling it. And that's where the Pontiac comes in. Will get a pic up here as soon as Fatchuk shows me how its supposed to be done.

Yep I'd grab that puppy in a heartbeat if it still looks that good and it's priced fair in your world..That would look good on yah, can you were clogs to drive that boat??
Great longroof, would love to have another. NHRA did not recognize Canadian Pontiacs for stock/ SS classes outside Canada. As Pontiac had a different 6 I can't remember wheither we ran the same class as the Chevy 6's.(59 Stratocheif, 261) Burt Straus had a heck of a time getting his Astre(Pontiac power) classed in Prostock.
Love it. I am a big fan of canadian poncho's and have had many 55-57's, but never a 58'. If you can afford it, and it is price reasonably - I would get it :)
and if you decide not to buy the wagon let me know ....................I got parts left over from two 4 door cars that I strip a year ago , my two cars were laurentian if you want to make the station wagon to look different
