Anyone know if they have actually started any onsite construction, or is it still a wait and see deal? Supposed to have had the OK to go......but haven't really heard of anything proceeding farther. Anyone in the area know for sure what's happening?
I travel to Fort Erie at least twice a month and have seen no sign of construction on the actual site but there has been some work done on the waterway channel at the Gilmore Rd. exit. I asked my barber whats going on with the Speedway and he says that once again our wonderful Government has stepped in and threw a couple more roadblocks in the works. I tellyou,, them fricken Liberals have really thrown the screws to Fort Erie. I don't know who pi---d them off but whoever it was the Liberals wont let it go. The only thing that seems to be slowing down construction is Govt rad tape.
The area could see millions of dollars in revenue and have support business' spring up to meet the on going demands. Food and lodging would be high on the list. The spin off's could be huge if people would be smart about it and not so small and petty. A number of years ago, the rumor mill had the proposed site in the West Lorne area right beside the 401. (West Lorne is between London and Chatham) Apparently a couple horse breeders on local council persuaded the rest of the locals to reject it. What a bunch of dumbass' this province is managed by....at all levels.
Canadian Motor Speedway is a motorsports park currently under construction in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. The development is located on an 821 acres (332 hectares) adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Way highway. It consists of a 1.2 kilometer (3/4 mile) progressive bank oval and 3.2 kilometer (2 mile) road course. With 65,000 seats and 40 suites, Canadian Motor Speedway will be the largest speedway and the largest stadium in Canada. Its location provides it with a large market area, being 6.4 kilometers (4 miles) from the Canada/USA border with Buffalo, N.Y. and 17 kilometers (11 miles) fromNiagara Falls.
It is a hybrid development with aspects making it unique from other racetracks. It will have the two race courses as well as, Research and Development, Light Industrial and Commercial areas on the site. A specific objective is to develop relevance for motorsports through the initiatives of the Research and Development area, which concentrates on advancing fuels, materials and power train technologies, while augmenting environmental sustainability through a bio diversity initiative.
Further benefits from the development include providing a strong employment base, with a projected 730 operational jobs for the Speedway, R&D, Light Industrial and Commercial zones and 1,200 construction jobs over 21 months for the speedway and road course. Events will draw patrons from areas outside of the Niagara region to increase the number of tourists to the area. The result is a proposed new dollar economic impact of $400 million annually.
Daily activities will include R&D testing, road course track days (for car and motorcycle clubs), driver experience sessions on the oval, corporate team-building seminars/track time, charity fundraiser events, motocross and kart practice sessions, and snowmobile sessions in season. The Speedway will feature 10 summer weekend Special Events, under a permit from the Town of Fort Erie.

That's a nice writeup but as I reported. I was in Fort Erie last week past the site where the Speedway is planned for and saw no sign of construction or construction vehicles at the site. Last I heard it was more demands by the Government that is holding things up. I know the citizens are getting pi---d at the red tape holdups. Typical crap in the Niagara area.
On the past weekend I was talking to my brother in law who knows more people " in the know" than I do and he said the big delay is indeed the government holding things up. Apparently they want the speedway owners to foot the bill for construction of a new bridge and interchange at the Bowen Rd. exit.
No. Not a schoolteacher, a big mouth politician named HUDAK. What an idiot he was. He didn't learn a dam thing from the last election against Dirty Dalton . It was his election to lose by all accounts in the press. So , he went out and lost, BOTH TIMES, against a Liberal govt. that was all primed for an ass whuppin.

Yeah, as soon as he said he was going to cut 100,000 public sector jobs he was toast.
As you said, the Liberals were in a weak position after all the scandals and screw ups.
Further to the progress on the Fort Erie Speedway. This morning I was in Fort Erie and from the highway there was nothing to see. On the way home I took the back road which is closer to the site and ,,,,, nothing. So there is no progress to report. I can only assume it is due to the Gov,t demands for the new exchange at Bowen Rd. Not sure , but, the Bowen Rd. bridge is the only one that has not been worked on this past summer and the roads in the area are in pretty bad shape. The Gilmore Rd. bridge and roadway have undergone extensive renovations and are still going on . Maybe if the Libs would quit giving our tax money to the cry babies in Toronto there would be something left for the rest of the province. I have the T. O. news on at this moment and the TTC is whining again.
Maybe nothing happening in Fort Erie but they are going great guns at Cayuga Speedway. Apparently spending 15 million on the place with a company from Michigan that specializes in racetracks getting ready to repave the track. New lights have been installed, the grandstand has been fixed up and painted and the infield has been cleared. Hoping to be ready to go in 2015. Can't wait.

Obviously,, the Liberal Government is not involved in the Speedway.
I'm sure the particulars and details are different but it sure reminds me of all the coulda-woulda-shoulda B.S. about a paved half mile track outside of Windsor about 10 years ago . This area has had several circle tracks over the decades but they have all given way to , um , progress ....yeah that's it . Used to be a dragstrip too . Gonzo . So the closest is South Buxton ( Chatham , Blenheim area )which is kind of a neat little dirt track and they seem to fill the stands !
Yep just like the plans for a drag strip, at the old mosport track just south of me, just off the old stock car track, SURPRISE!!!! the stock car track is gone, area where drag strip was supposed to be GONE!!!!Expansion of the road course & new buildings "canned that in a hurry" I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has with all the new houses built next door & complaints about the noise!!!

Same deal at Lancaster Dragway. 3 years ago a new subdivision went in down the road...................now there are petitions to shut down the noisy race track..........................Hell it was there 50 years and you build a house next to it.................who should move?
No drag strip . ..77. not interested . the only circle track I plan on going to see is Merrittville dirt track by St Catherines , But will probably only go once ..77.

Q: After many meetings, OMB hearings, fanfare, promises etc., I still see no real progress on the site of the new Canadian Motor Speedway. What’s currently going on there?
A: The site may lack bulldozers, but officials from Canadian Motor Speedway in Fort Erie say work has been carrying on.
“There’s been a tremendous amount of progress administratively and behind the scenes,” said Canadian Motor Speedway spokesman Erik Tomas. “You’re just not seeing it with bulldozers and dirt, but that stuff does need to get done and that’s exactly where we are in the project right now.”
The company just opened a corporate office at 168 Garrison Rd. on Nov. 26. around the corner from the speedway site off Bowen Road.
Tomas said the project is now entering the detailed site plan design phase for the $400 million speedway and entertainment complex. It’s hoping to deliver the plan to the town before the end of the year so it can get the necessary permits to resume on-site work in the spring.
Work started a while back with the re-routing of Miller’s Creek behind what will be the grandstands in an effort to have the least amount of environmental impact. That re-routing will continue once work resumes, including more planting of vegetation and trees.
CMS has also been in discussions with the Ministry of Transportation to finalize the Bowen Rd/QEW interchange off-site that will serve as the main access and egress to the site. Tomas said the discussions centre on whether the interchange will be a two or four-lane design. “You have to have proper access and egress into the project. That has to be decided, that’s for sure. It’s critical to the overall project,” he said.
“The province needs to come through with their commitment for that kind of off-structure support that they pledged in 2010.”
The completion of the complex is now anticipated for 2017.
Fact Finder! Canadian Motor Speedway said it’s recruited Jeff Gordon, a four-time NASCAR champion, to design its oval track. CMS spokesman Erik Tomas said Gordon is working on a computer simulator from his office in North Carolina to determine the straight-away length and corner banking of the three-quarter mile oval track. The complex will also incorporate a two-mile road course.
Because of the tremendous amount of red tape, due to environmental concerns, the owners of the property and their developers have found a rather unique way to circumvent the environmental road blocks preventing the first phase of development ... the excavation, by utilizing the benefits of nature itself. The benefits are many, not the least of which is free labour. Although this new excavation procedure is expected to add several decades to the project, there is a silver lining for the investors. As the workers age and become unable to put in a full day of useful employment, they can simply be relegated to the BBQ. I have included a spy photo of the start of excavation.
Since the last election there has been a new mayor elected in Fort Erie. Wayne Redekop was mayor before Martin and there was a lot of progress made in Fort Erie under his watch. He is a go getter and I have a lot more faith in the Speedways future than I did before the election.
Good to hear, guess it's like any other project, lots of unseen prep work before the flashy stuff everybody see's and thinks that is all that happens. Had to smile with Cat's observation, it's true to a large extent that the natives somewhat self governing allows them to get on with it. Just goes to show that if the provincial and federal governments would bugger off, real people can and will make things happen. Government still don't get it, they are there to govern for us, not to us for their own agenda.
Glenn Styers spares no expense to make it the best
Fort Erie will never happen and even if it did happen the best
Racing we would see is nascar truck if were lucky
I was talking to the original builder of the Cayuga oval a couple of weeks ago and he has been by the track talking to the new owners that purchased the track. New stands and like stated the Michigan company paving the track. Apparently back stretch grandstand to be used for the new drag strip being built on the old landing strip and very good possibility the old house at the front will be the basics for a Casino. Sounds like just 5 or 6 specials planned for next year along with some concerts. Spent many a Fri night at Nelles Corners.
I just saw an article in the local " newspaper " this morning about the speedway. Apparently it is still being held up by the Bowen Rd. overpass which needs to be rebuilt as it is the only original one remaining between Fort Erie and Toronto.

Azzhole government shouldn't have to keep screwing over these guys to much longer until they pull out,..... and take the multimillions this project would have generated with them. At this point, I'd be surprised if it still goes considering the dragging of feet and phony/ridiculous requests put on the whole operation. Had it been a garbage dump, it would have been built and running in three months.
In the newspaper article they mentioned 2017. I am thinking that was construction start date, and if not for our ridiculous LIBERAL so called Gov.t it would have been OK,d a long time ago. I cant figure what the holdup is. If it was one of their Liberal cronies it would be up and running by now,as are the windmills.
Jeff Gordon pushing forward on Fort Erie track: Representatives from Jeff Gordon say they remain committed towards the development of the $400 million Canadian Motor Speedway in Fort Erie. Pending approvals from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Province of Ontario, officials expect to file this spring for the necessary permits to resume construction for the massive track complex along Bowen Road and just off of the Queen Elizabeth Way. The track, whose centerpiece is a Gordon-designed signature speedway, could see its first race take place by 2017. "Jeff has very precise and intimate ideas on how he wants the CMS oval designed and built," said John Bickford Sr., Jeff Gordon Inc. vice president and general manager. Bickford is Gordon's stepfather. Billed as a motorsport innovation park, Canadian Motor Speedway will have a 3/4 mile banked oval track and a 2-mile graded road course. The grandstand will hold 60,000 race fans plus an enclosed club seat section for another 5,000 fans and 40 luxury suites.(Buffalo Busniess First)
AND For the $400-million Canadian Motor Speedway to keep moving forward changes need to be made at QEW-Bowen Rd. interchange. "That overpass at Bowen Rd., does need to be upgraded," said CMS spokesman Erik Tomas. "But because it's going to be the main access and egress point to the speedway development, meetings are being conducted with the Ministry of Transportation to determine what has to go there, and whether that will be a two or four-lane design." Tomas said the track has spent a large sum of money on traffic studies, and even though there will be about 60,000 people in the stands initially for auto-racing events, it might not be necessarily to have an expensive four-lane interchange. The track might be able to do it with two lanes.(Niagara Falls Review)(2-28-2015)

cool is Fort Erie close to Toronto ? wondering since the Liberals don't seem to recognize anything outside TO
Good one. I don't know what it is about Fort Erie but the Liberals seem to be 100% against anything to improve Fort Erie or to support it. The horse track, the slots, the hospital, several companies in Stevensville, one of which was making their prized windmills. It just boggles the mind. Of course it is a Liberal Government so its no wonder nobody can figure them out.
Back in the news again....the Bowen Road interchange that had been tooted as a possible deal breaker, is now going ahead with just the 2 lanes that are there instead of the 4 lanes asked for. To change to 4 lanes and new overpass etc. costs were coming in at approx. 60 million for the upgrade and changes. Track investors were willing to put up 15 million (with more available) if the government would put up the rest. Government is not interested it seems in providing any investment to the region. However, the Niagara Regional Council under the Niagara Gateway Improvement Plan has voted unanimously to provide the speedway project with tax concessions and breaks over the next 10 years.
The light at the end of the tunnel may have just gotten a little brighter.
Will NASCAR sanction the track if traffic can't get in or out??? Didn't this happen down south one yr,& there was hell to pay, as the fans couldn't get in by the time the green flag dropped????

There are 2 interchanges that can be used, Gilmore Rd. which is a fairly new rebuilt interchange and the Bowen Rd, interchange which seemed to be the stumbling block. I think the Libs were just trying to get a new bridge built for free. There are the 2 exits mentioned plus , if you are familiar with the area Bowen Rd, can be used from Stevensville and also Hwy,3 from Port Colborne Welland. The big drawback will be if there is only 1 entrance to the track.
