58-59 chev wiper motor. Wiring in speed control
Permalink

Hi guys

I am trying to save my original wiper motor for my 1959 apache. The wiper motor runs but it will not park and I broke the 2 position switch.

My thought is, if I could wire in a potentiometer (like a volume of small fan control) I could control speed and park the arms by slowing them down and stopping them.

I know that the wiper body needs to be grounded to the dash and the switch needs to be grounded to the wiper body in a stock setup. motor only needs to rotate one way. Does anyone know if or how this could work?

Thanks

You motor wont park because the cam in there is sticking. Take the cover off and you will see what I mean....at least the one on my 62 Pontiac was like that.

I think this may help I know up to 57 the vacuum and electric wipers used the same dash switch. 58 deco . bulletin

more information here

If it is the vacuum wiper and its still in good shape its easy enough to install a vac pump 12v off a new car and then you can vary the speed by the amount you open it (infinite)

older truck wiper up to 57?

Thanks guys
It is an electric setup. An electronics guy here in town had a look and said the control board is not working.

When I got it out of the truck the button was stuck in and the motor would run at one speed. I found out the button was seized in and when I freed it up the motor would only run when the burton was depressed (watch your fingers!).

I will read over these links and see what I can find. I will get it back and check the cam. If all else fails I will get one from bills truck shop. I just thought it would be neat to have variable speed.
