I believe they are gone.. their quality had slipped the last few years ..I had a set of bumpers done three years ago by them and the workmanship was not great..the Chrome was cracked around the bumper bolt holes before we even installed them and I was unable to get them to do anything about it... But I do believe they are closed..I am not surprised how many vehicles are on the road to-day that have any chrome..very few and I think on most newer trucks the few that do have some chrome bumpers, they are cheaper from China for new bumpers than replating ..Sad but we are living in different times..everybody wants cheap..cheap..guess we made our own nest..
I could be a monkey's uncle here.. I just googled them and they are listed as still being alive and operating ..looks like they have made some management changes..so ...are they up to snuff..I can't answer that ..
Cambridge chrome is the only one I will use and have for 30 years now. Ron and Al are both retired and Brian is running the show there now. I had fender lights done there 20 years ago and they put them together upside down. They repaired them no cost to me and a red faced apology 3 years ago when I finally went to use them. When looking for a shop ask if it is 3 step chrome with a coppered base then nickel then chrome. Ask to see a rad shell they have done or a large flat bumper and see if there are any waves in it. That will tell you how good they are. You do not want waves in your quarter panel so why would you want it in your chrome.

i asked the local guy who does reproduction castings for highend vintage woodenwheel stuff because i want to have my hood bird redone and he said the plating house of canada will do the best but you pay for it then, jim's polishing, cambridge chrome and mayfair plating. all are near or in toronto.

Mike in Cobourg does all the fine detail work himself which is the hard part then sends it to the Plating House. When you go to the Plating House go with an open mind as the guy can have a real attitude I think but he can do good work at times.

A few years ago (well several, time does fly past)I took two original '40 ford bumpers to Midway to get a price on having them
re chromed.
I had welded studs on the back of the bumpers and metal finished the fronts.
Sammy,, that was their welcoming person lost it when he saw what I had done. He went off about how you can't do that.
He went on and on about it. I thought he was going to call the bumper police.
Well in my opinion 3" wide '40 ford bumpers 6" off the ground aren't going to make a difference in my personal injury, but I could be wrong.
A little while after that BOB DRAKE had stainless bumpers at 50% off so I bought a new set.
Not sure what you want done but for smaller stuff I use SUPERIOR METAL FINISHING in London. They DON'T do bumpers!!!
I have had a lot of stuff done by them. They also do that goldish coloured finish like on some bolts.
I had the hood hinges done in this black coating looks like semi gloss hotrod black but is tough as chrome.
I had all of the locks catches, headlight buckets, adjusters, springs, boxes of stuff done. I didn't blast it they did,I only washed the dirt off.
My car has lots of chrome inside window garnishes I think about 15 pieces and they were rusty. They removed the rust and plated them.
All the stuff I had done I don't think I spent $500.
If the metal is pitted they don't fix the pitting.
It's all cash and they call or E mail you when it is done.
The only problem is don't be in a hurry for the parts. Just have to plan ahead a little.
The bosses name is Steve Smith and Ellie is on the counter
Thanks for the response. They are now out on hwy 4 between 401 & 402. Any one lately? Somewhere in Toronto jarvis1.
Somewhere in Toronto--i am not a good judge on this as i have only had 1pc done in probably 30-35yrs and i wasn't looking for or expecting concurs quality results. i had the front bumper for the 67 galaxie done, big bumper, last year at jim's polishing and buffing in scarborough. the cost was approx 850.00 and i was happy with the job done. dummy me thinking the rear bumper was still pretty good till i got the front one back, dah-lol, it will be going in over the winter. i had done some shopping around and came across them and i liked the family business aspect and the price was reasonable compared to other places i talked to. a couple of buddies from around here had sent some stuff to montreal and it came back not good for the prices they paid, just saying.

anyway, i am going to use them again for the rear one. the 850 price was just for the job not including any freight costs you may incur.
I've dealt with Jim's in Scarbourgh a few yrs ago as well. Did a frt. bumper that needed a lot of repair, turned out perfect, couldn't see any repair [other than from the back side] Costly YES but a replacement bar was "high" + shipping costs & still needed to be plated

Had Cambridge do the bumpers on my 47Convertible. I wasn't happy a bit= The back side of the bumpers still had old chrome flaking off! Must say the fronts looked great. I had to grind off the back with a little 2" sanding disc and paint them. For the same price, I had my 60 ElCamino bumpers (I think there was about 5 pieces altogether - maybe more on a 60 Chev) at Midway for the same price and they were almost as nice on the back as they were on the front. This is going back quite a few years ago though. Wasn't there a murder a few years ago regarding some people at Cambridge? Trying to recall what it was I heard - doesn't have any effect on this one way or the other - it just rattled something in my head when I read the post.

Looks like aside from Carl, nobody has had any dealing with them recently.
I send the large stuff like bumpers to Saskatchewan to get re-plated, but it ain't show chrome, it's '50 to '70's OEM quality. Not today's OEM standards.
The small parts that will fit in a lunch box, I get my brother in law to plate for me, he works at Kuntz Electroplating in Kitchener, they do most of the Harley Davidson plating.
Unfortunately, they only do large quantities, industrial contracts.
Midway used to have a vendors booth at Moparfest, but not the last couple years. The products they had on display looked great (probably expected).
All I can say, is that usually, if bad work comes out of a place, the word gets out really fast, and I haven't heard anything bad about them. Aside from I heard they had closed also, but apparently not so.
