I was really bored this winter and low on funds..(my daughters sports keep me broke!) so I bought this 39 car as a winter project...kind of to keep me busy and kind of to see how I could bring it back to life...so Far I am having fun
Making a frame for the car now using a nova front clip and S10 4 x 4 rear end.....first time I ever went this far, learning made a few mistakes but its coming along...No where near the craftsmanship I see from others on this Forum...but looking to make a rat rod type car out of it...rough, strong and as cheap as possible...
hopefully it all works out...don't really care about the money end of things, but don't want a fortune wrapped up into it if things don't work out lol......
Roof was chopped 4 inches...floor was cut out as someone tried to mount on S10 frame...just as well as I will be making my own floor structure....It was cheap, with most of rest of body
Looks like a fun project. I like cheap an full of attitude. If it is chopped have you thought about glass. Hopefully it uses flat glass that is easy to have made, sometimes glass is the hardest part of a project. Ed
yep all flat glass....thank God...I chopped my 57 Chev truck and had almost 20 hours in cutting and fitting that curved windshield...I thought about that before I bought this thing...
Plan is to close in the rear side windows like a sedan delivery....wont be no rear seat just a carpeted area with stereo speakers...will have to look for cheap front seat/seats that tilt forward that look correct

Kinda fuzzy, but what I can make out from the photo, looks pretty good! Body looks decent AND it's chopped already, that's a load of work done right there! Great start, keep us posted, have fun and good luck!

I'd rather be in the garage! I'm old school, I use the "inches" side of the measuring tape!
In my humble opinion....
That body style does not look good with the side windows filled in.
It does not have the proper back door area. It should be flat, like a sedan delivery.
I remember seeing pictures of a 39 or 40 coupe from the 50s with filled in 1/4 windows. I think it ran Bonniville , I thought the car looked great but then I like different, no rules in custom hotrods. Ed
Yep I think this car is screaming for closed in rear windows.....the sedan delivery was done much the same...I will leave the detail in the sheet metal around the window area when closed in
In My Quest for CHEAP I traded my free Miller welder for rims and tires...
18 x 8 on front and 18 x 9.5 on rear ....got the rims/tires , 1" thick new alum wheel spacers if I choose to use and $200 cash...
the offset is a bit off what I wanted But corrected the overall width of nova clip and S10 rear end back to 39 chev dimensions so it worked out well :

Getting glass is not as big of a deal as it used to be, and relatively inexpensive.
I got all new black glass, custom cut and tempered, from a glass shop here in Simcoe.
Both vents, both side glass and a rear window. All flat glass, for my 61 truck.
Under $500
