I stopped at the grocery store and when I came out turned the key and a click then lost all power in the truck. So opened the hood to check battery terminals...all tight.....standing there for 1-2 minutes then the engine bay hood light comes on....closed the hood and it started right up.  furious

now its back in the garage and I'll check it tonight.

Almost like a relay tripped then reset itself......or ground straps.

any thoughts?confuse

Clearly it's the grocery stores fault ...retrace your steps and return the items you bought . biggrin

At least your major connections are on the solenoid on the fender not the prostate like a chev.

Sounds like the negative cable connections would be the first spot to check. Next check solenoid's connections. Lastly clean battery posts.

Why drive a 1929 truck (you said antique) in the winter

I checked all that and the only thing that might have caused the power lose was a slightly lose + battery lead.  This antique is a 25 yr old 1990 chevy wink

My 97 GMC has done something similar a couple of times to me...Will be running just fine...will stall, just quits, not stumbling or running out of gas. I can then crank it, but it wont start....A minute later, it starts and runs just fine again. No codes or anything...puzzling

its just like a breaker trips and needs to cool to reset. I had that on another chevy when I was trying to fix the tail lights on a trailer. I would plug in the trailer go to the back and no turn signals so unplugged the trailer and . went to the fuse panel under the hood and had power. wtf........did that for a long time till it dawned on me that the circuit was on a breaker and was resetting itself.biggrin

good thought but I don't think there is a breaker on the main circuit.

bad cell in the battery maybe . ???. Years ago I went to a small cycle repair shop that specialized an American an British bikes . the lane way was about 60 ft long an the last half rose like 15 ft . I had to park on the grade behind another car . that dude wanted to leave . So I go out get in my car turn the key , nothing , no lights , no crank , not a sound .
I can,t get boosted cause the guy is ahead of me . We roll it down the lane way out onto the road . after the car was level on the road for like 30 seconds , all the dash lights came on . I threw it in park started right up , every thing worked .
An open in a cell in the battery ..77.

I'm not being a wise guy but is this problem peculiar to GM , maybe in the design being different from other brands ? My buddy with the 396 Camaro had similar issues with his aftermarket ignition .

I did see something on the net about a recall on some gms re the battery plates separating. makes sense since everything else is working fine

Coil saturation ... check the wires  between the  cap and coil... I have had the negative fail just behind the crimp wire looks fine from the outside . All would be fine and it was like someone reached over and shut off the key . let it sit for a bit and start back up. drove me nuts for a few weeks.

You may be right....Its only done it 3 times, the one time, I opened the hood and pushed down on the cap and wires and it started up. Will check it out, thanks
