I installed new door rubbers and trunk seal last year just wondering what product you use to lube them so they seat better, not a big fan of slamming my doors. Thanks HRD.
I have the same situation gotta really slam the doors to get them to close and I have to push in on the doors to get them to pop open. I tried the seals from the kit I got from LMC and also a set of Soft Seals, both seem like they are too stiff. Guys that have trucks like mine on another forum, are saying they are still slamming their doors 2 and 3 years after they installed new rubbers. No one seems to have a fix.
It seems the problem is across the board on various forums. We need 'hollow core' seals, just like the new cars use.
Unfortunately, custom-designed kits aren't available. Search the 'Facca' site for universal type hollow seals. They have two
stores in London, and a big website that takes some time to search, but looks like they might have a useful seal.
Whatever the main repop suppliers are using, the rubber compound never seem to improve over the years.
An old body man friend told me to use the silicone brake pad lube from Raybestos. It comes in a small tube and you just apply it with a foam sponge. Works great and leaves the rubber nice and pliable with no mess.
I'm going to try the emulsion. I've heard of that product some where in a conversation with someone. If I have any luck I will post it. Thanks for your help and any further help. HRD
Just to further my statement of silicone emulsion....we had a water doctor show up to the dealer i worked at and he went on about F Body t roof seals leaking/Corvette leaks etc....apply this, expand in sun and no leaks....
I used it on all my door seals twice a year....spring fall. Keeps them supple, soft.
Small white bottle at GM parts counter. With applicator. I usually run a bead around the rubber, take a good rag and massage it in. If it it will just glob on. The sun makes the rubber swell.
1 bottle should do ya 2 cars for 1 year.If done twice a year. I do the trunk seal too.
