In the near future, I will be insuring my camaro as a classic, and because of this, the insurance wants a full appraisal for classic cars done. They require the appraisal papers and pictures of the vehicle's front, rear, interior, and engine compartment.
Does anyone know of anyone trustworthy that will do this kind of work or some one that you have used or dealt with in the past?
Im located in Brantford, so somewhere preferably close would be preferred.
Guy down here near Windsor is around $200 . Try to get some background on the guy ....it might be really easy for anyone to pass themself off as "qualified" . You can probably make a good looking certificate on Windows Office .
Thanks a lot. What do these people charge for the apprqisals? The guy in brantford wants 200...
Just make sure who ever you use is Ok'd with the Insurance CO. nothing worse than spend a couple hundred & find out he's not recognized or approved by Ins. co. Think Studeshaker is referring to a Tax appraisal for transferring the ownership, not for ins.???

I know the Antique and Classic Car Club of Canada does them very reasonable full appraisal report recognised by the insurance and government tax with a membership thrown in and a bye monthly colour magazine for $120. I believe. The club is over 700 strong so they set this up for members and to attract new members but not advertised. They have 15 appraisers across Ontario PM if interested for one in your area. This is who I have used for 15 years and when I had a claim 2 years ago no problem at all. Their web site acccc.ca/home/index.php
I should mention they had a three part story in the ACCCC magazine on these guys www.superiorclassics.ca/ has anyone been to one of their events yet. They started the races in 1999 like the arm drop in Picton. What helped them so much was the local cable station came and aired the action for free that brought in the sponsors.

Old Kar Appraisals out of Caledonia has been doing mine for quite a few years. And Paul is a member of P.A.V.E. Group of appraisors that are licenced and recognized by the Insurance companies. Phone number is (905)765-4932. He has a couple of classics ad been doing them for over 20 years. Will treat you right. Not sure of price but was less than $200.
Thanks a lot guys for all the input . i have a little more selection now.
Ghostpost, I am paired with my moms insurance policy thats why they dont have a problem but i will definately be investigating more. Wouldnt be the first time i have gotten falsified info from them...

P A V E guys seem to be higher than the rest??? P A V E Guy in Lindsay is "way" over the $200!!!! I don't know if they do a "better" appraisal but Ins. Co. seem to accept the other ones. Think the last one I had done was $125 & going to get a another soon, due to the "Mishap" & screw up with ins. Co. Usually get a discount when he does 2 cars at same time!!

I was told anyone insured under classic car insurance has to have 10 years driving experience. Whether your under your moms insurance or not. I was informed this is provincial not based on insurance companies specifically. But if you find an insurance company that will insure it as a classic (with restrictions obviously) please let me know. There was another thread about this the other day. Currently my sons car is insured under us as a classic because when he bought it and we built it he wasn't old enough to drive it. We called around and even when we insured it, said only people with minimum 10 years driving experience can drive it. Our other vehicles have reg insurance and he is able to drive them legally now.
(sorry I didnt mean to de rail thread)

I was reading through that thread. Im not saying your wrong and I appreciate your info. Thats why I said I would be investigating this more. I will talk to the head guy for the branch himself about it. More likely than not ho wever, the people I spoke with were probably not the right ones to talk to and I was probably just given wrong info again...
Thanks everyone else for their input though. Once I see for sure whether it can be done, I will either chooose or not choose the people reccomended.
If I am reading this correct your dad might be able to get reg insurance on the Camaro so you can drive it and then cancel the P.L. and P.D.part of the insurance just leaving fire & theft onit over the winter and that will help cut the costs...just an idea
I think before you go ahead with the appraisal you need a quote from the insurance showing a full list of restrictions for the policy. You may be better off just switching coverage between the ranger and camaro instead of insuring both for the full year.
My dad wont be helping with insurance, as much as he would like to, but there are reasons why. However, like slim said, when I go in and see whats up, I will decide whether or not the Camaro will be insured full time paired with my mom as regular insurance, or going on classic.
As far as I know, I was told 2500km a year, I can drive it any time I want, its main use should be for shows and stuff, and that I need the appraisal, pictures, and copy of ownership. I even took the liberty of asking the person I talked with about age and that, and she said no problem. So either she doesnt know what shes talking about (most likely since GhostPost has already gone through this and said that the 10 years driving is provincial), or for whatever reason, state farm can be excluded from this law.
Currently, it is on fire and theft, and thats what it will be going back on to if I drive it full time. Classic Car insurance is all year round I have been told.
Like I said, I will be talking to the main guy at the branch and see what he says. It is all a matter of money, and the classic car insurance and driving the truck is a little more expensive, but I dont have to worry about my car getting screwed.
Is it possible that they just want the appraisal due to the cars age & may not be getting 'classic' insurance, just regular coverage on 'older' car. I'd check this out too!!!

I went in and specifically asked for classic car insurance, and they put me in their system and the quote was 23 a month, so I dont think that its regular coverage. Should be somewhere like 160+ like my truck.
