Hello everyone. i know this sounds silly. I have a 95 Transam, that needs a rebuild. Ls1 swap, 383 build, both are $$$$$ expensive, and sometimes unreasonable cause it's the same amount of a second car.
what I like to know is, has anyone swap an older motor to a newer car. For example, my 95 trans am swap a gen 1 sbc Chevy motor. sbc Chevy is a lot cheaper by far than 383 and ls1 swap.
and it will qualified as a hotrod?, seen that either in the mto.
Emission will be an issue, but is there anything around that?.
need everyones info and knowledge please that you.
Hotrod status does nothing for you regarding required emission control components. They look at the engine, they look at the car ... they determine the required emission control equipment by whichever is newer. If you install a 1970 engine in a 1995 Trans Am, the Trans Am is the newer of the two, you are then required to have all of the emission control equipment that Trans Am came with (installed and functioning). If you install a 2009 LS engine in your 1995 Trans Am, you are required to have all the emission control components the LS engine came with, in your 1995 Trans Am. This is a visual inspection, separate from an actual test of the emissions your car emits.
I agree with Scott420p ... it would be easiest just to rebuild the engine you already have while keeping all the emission controls on it.
