This spring when I first started my car the oil pressure gauge went all the way around 360 degrees and is sitting against the pin. I assumed that the gauge screwed up and went and bought another one, put it in, and it did the same thing. Anyone have any idea what is causing the issue? Car is a '69 coupe with a 351w. The gauges worked fine all last summer but now I am having this issue.
well,, if your oil pressure is that high.. the filter usually blows off. and you have what I call a 4 qt flush... all the oil on the floor...
is it possible the oil pressure relief in the pump is stuck and the pressure is very high???
myself,, I would install a high[er] pressure gauge to see if it shows very high pressure.. then dig into the relief valve.. if it confirms high pressure.
how long has the engine run with the possible "high pressure" ? I think if it was run for any length of time, and revved up.. the oil filter would burst.. or at least change shape
maybe you can have a peek at the filter and see if it looks distorted...
X2 on the oil filter blowing off. A few years ago, a buddy of mine down the street thought he'd get his '66 Chevy II running after sitting about 10 years. Blew 3 filters off it before freeing up the pressure relief valve.
