i suppose my new shop could be considered a project. it will certainly be a treat to work in. a large carport is being built on one side to store the car hauler and kubota bx25. the big foot tubes will soon be poured and the 4 post lift is arriving tomorrow, it is the higher 82" lift. plenty of clearance as the walls are 12' 6" and ceiling peak to floor is about 14 ft. the building itself is 32x36 with 2 - 10x10 overhead doors.  if there is any interest i can post pics as work progresses.

I always enjoy looking at other shops and getting ideas. Should hold 6 cars or what's your plan for it?

plan is to work on, maintain, and store the chevelle, vette, and stude. there should be enough room as well to work on things away from the cars. welding, bench work etc. i'll install a big maxx propane heater also - the lines are there and accessible.

I picked up a gas Big Maxx 80,000 BTU when T.S.C. had them on sale. My shop is 24 x 40 and we hung it about 12" down from the ceiling half way across the shop and aimed it at the overhead doors and it works excellent. Pulled the radiant heater down and sold it. No cold spots in the shop last winter.

Looks good Doug, I thought my shop was "huge" till I started putting in the benches, cabinets welder Etc. Mine is 24 x 36 make sure you seal up any electrical boxes & light fixtures when doing insulation & use thick "poly" for vapor barrier, mine is "tight' & easy to keep warm/cool I'm using a "Hot Dawg" unit heater on nat'l gas & works well!!! I did 8' x 9' doors & should have gone 9' wide as the car trailer will just squeak thru with a 1/4" fender to door edge clearance!!!! Pete

Aren't those lifts great. I broke down and bought one 5 years ago. Don't know how I got along without it for so many years. I mounted my to the floor, no intentions of rolling a car around on it but I wish I would have bought the rolling jack for the centre of it at the time. I have a couple of MG's as well and kinda hard to get a normal jack under them the way they sit on the ramps.

can you tell us a little about your lift?    What brand and or where you got it? Does it require compressed air to operate? What kind of a job is it to put together?

Thanks

TMJ

i bought it in omemee from clarke's southern truck parts, they sell rotisseries as well. i bought from there on the recommendation of several friends that have them plus they are only 30 minutes away. a hydraulic pump operates the cable assembly to lift. i have the sliding jack which i feel is a must have, there is also a sliding tray to use a bottle jack too.  it's not bolted to the floor and i will install the wheel kit to use the lift as scaffold when the attic gets insulated and the ceiling goes on, the boys doing the install said a lot of folks do this. they were in, setup, and gone in about 2 1/2 hours - 650 bucks well spent.

the carport is nearly complete and when boxed in will be a good storage place for the trailer, kubota, etc.

Doug, If I stay here [taxes going up AGAIN] I am going to do the 'car port' thing on the back of my shop, then close it in over time. Durham region is getting out of hand & too expensive to live here anymore. Now they are talking about amalgamating all the fire depts., no more volunteers, all full time, at $90 grand + a yr. & Scugog twp. has just said OK to a study on this costing [ us] $ 75 grand & they spent $25 G to have the old mill downtown "painted" for the Can-Am games torch run that lasted 10min. thru town Mill was bought for 1.6 MILLION by Twp. & now has been deemed structurally unfit & may cost millions to save it??? DUH!!!!!!! should have had "Mike Holmes' inspection before they bought the "F" in thing. OK rant over!!!!

I hear you Pete, I am just south of you and I have a hate on for the municipal tax man! If I didn't have to commute into the city everyday I would be looking east...
